Donnie Darko Frank the Bunny - Original Mold

Great news and update, Art. I love all the little details we're hearing about this too that only you and the original propmaker would ever be able to find out.

...and you share them with us. You like us! You really like us!

The big question is: Once this is done, and you put it on for the first time, how the hell is StarWarsChick going to pry it off your face? I mean, something just tells me you won't want to take it off.

:lol:lol:lol

I LOVE you guys and I LOVE being in a position to share this info with you! There is very little I enjoy more than being in a position to share things like this. What good is having something and enjoying it if you can't share that joy (and creepiness) with others? I have a lot of really cool stuff and the newness tends to wear off quickly, but I have been wanting this for so long that I am still completely enamored with looking at one of the test pulls I have sitting in my Deltof cabinet.

Already done this. Two disappointing things to report. 1) For whatever reason, the Frank mask doesn't scare the dog at all... VERY disappointing... and 2) it is not very comfortable at all! You would think with it having a human face molded into it, that it would fit like a glove and be very comfy. It isn't. Even with it being in a soft foam the inner eye area of the mask digs into your face right at the tear ducts... you naturally want to push it in tight because the visibility is absolutely horrendous, but pushing it tight to your face makes it push into the deepest recess of your eye (at the edge of your nose) and is really uncomfortable. I now know why Frank really never does anything in the movie. He can't see at all.

I know you are not trying to drum up sales here Art. All I can say is that "Donnie Darko" as a movie helped me (in a way) with the idea and concept of death through my grief of losing my 8 year old daughter. I would do anything in the world to get one of your limited runs for collectors (just one). For some reason Frank the Bunny holds a special place in my heart as he guided Darko to accept the fate that he needed to finally accept. All I ask is please point me the way, once these are available. And you are very generous for wanting to share your awesome find.

Thank you,
Anthony

And here is it... Frank 5... our 5th prototype compared to the first. I don't know how well you can see it, but due to the low density of the foam in Frank 1, there are wrinkles all over the surface of the casting. We first just added more material on subsequent castings, but have finally gone to a denser foam entirely and I am finally satisfied with the look as you can now see the texture from the sculpt itself as opposed to texture from the material.

Wow! You can definitely notice all the fine surface details really popping. Looks fantastic.

This may be my current favorite thread on the board. (It's still losing the "all time favorite" battle to "Paging Matt Munson" but it's an honor just to be nominated :lol)

Thanks, Nick! This project has been a HUGE learning experience for me... and there is still more to go!

Well... what did you think of the movie?!?

Loved it !

Although I must admit that after it ended, and because I liked it so much, I found myself googling the movie and spent about an hour reading (aka de-dumbing myself :lol) about time travel vs. predestination paradoxes etc :lol

Then it made perfect sense :)

the fur is gonna be the hardest part to get right i think. looks great so far though.

I agree. We have some very good reference of the fur and are hopefully getting even better reference soon. I am trying to avoid having to make a custom run of fur as it will be insanely expensive.

This is a top 5 piece for me and I can't believe how blessed I was to snag that mold (as the last screen used head with hood sold for $25,000.. more than I am likely ever pay for one piece), so it is super important to me that we get this as close to the original as possible.

You opened the door what are the other 4 items Im curious in your top 5? I know the history of the Original I am a fan of the mask myself. Screen used - Jason debord -Profiles in History :)
The price went up each time like 10k. I am still shocked the original mold came on Ebay .
Hope I am around to get a pull if you decide offer them to other fans :) Its a timeless figure .

Haha...

Top 5 would be:

#1 - Something from Boba Fett (screen used, production made, whatever... just something. I have a ton of replicas, a number with lineage back to the originals, but I have nothing that IS actually original. There are about 3 pieces floating around out there that I MIGHT be able to snag one day... We will see.
#2 - Something from Ringo from Tombstone. Working on this one.
#3 - Frank (done.... or almost done. ;))
#4 - Something from Predator or Predators. This one is done as I have Royce's Shotgun from Predators and while it is a replica, I also have a P1 mask from the original mold.
#5 - Something from Fight Club. Got nothing at all on this one.
