In looking over your reply again, Art...I wanted to clarify one thing...

I was not speaking against the whole idea of the Premium Membership.

I was only taking issue with the need to have some type of icon that showed that a member was using Premium or not. (Which you have addressed as well.)

Some parts of your response seemed to defend the need to charge for the extra services...which again I do not have an issue with.

That is because we haven't hammered out every detail yet. I can tell you that we are not making the Junkyard a Premium Member only section, nor are we changing any other existing area to be Premium Member only.

Premium Members will have the ability to display their Premium Member badge or not. Their choice. In fact, we don't even have it turned on by default. It is a setting each member can turn on (and turn off again) at will.

If my responses came off as being defensive, that was not my intent. I am sure many members have the same questions and concerns as you and I am only looking to help explain and clarify in order to give our members a better understanding of why we are taking certain actions.

Hi Art. I saw the Premium Members forum appear on the main page. It says there are only 6 days to go until it opens. Is there going to be an announcement prior to it opening with information about the feature and the cost?

We are still working out a few final bugs, but I expect an announcement will go up between Friday and Sunday with basic information and pricing. Our plan is to open Premium Membership on Oct 31.

Just now discovered this. I like the idea of the premium memberships and if the price is in my range I'll do it for sure, but I think the badge is a bit much. They have something similar over on the Gallifrey Base forum and the premium members get to choose a title to display below their name instead of the badge (which IMO is way too flashy and a bit pompous). I like the idea of the title because it gives you an opportunity to have something funny or creative on display and it's not very assuming, but people still know. Any chance something like that could be incorporated?

Hey Art...

With regard to the premium feature that allows you to use the Reputation System...

Is that only available between two paying members?

In other words, a paying member can't rate a non paying member, right?

What is the Reputation System and how is it to be utilized? What is the overall objective of it and is there any fail safes in place so that it is not abused?

For instance....

"That dude is a dick. There!!! Negative rep points for you, sucker!!"

I didn't want to clutter the announcement link with inane posts so I just wanted to say I am very excited about this. The whole premium service is a lot cheaper than I was expecting and prepared to pay. The main part was for me was to support the site and if I could get the extra PM space, even better. The rest of the features are a bonus. I don't know if I will use them, but it's nice to have the option.
