any one else pick up some good deals today???/

I'm just disappointed that I couldn't find a couple of specific props I was hoping to get after Halloween, Thor's hammer (Mjolnir) and Katniss' Mockingjay pin. I live in a small town and the only nearby Halloween store was sold out of both before I could get there.

I'm in the same boat as you. Small town so there's not much to choose from and it sells out fast here. I pretty much buy everything online except groceries, lol!

I managed to pull in an anatomical cat skeleton ($10), a Hand of the King Pin ($7), a Watchman Smile button ($1), A Gryffindor tie ($6) and a S.H.I.E.L.D. t-shirt for a tactical cosplay ($10). By far the best haul I pulled in post- Halloween.

i'm the same way schlitzie......i live in buffalo, wyoming population 4500 people....its crazy to think the the whole state has less then 600,000 people!!!!

An anatomical cat skeleton?! score! I went out today and found one place everyone else might have forgotten to loot. I got 2 mini skulls with hinged jaws that look great for .75 each, and a hanging witch that I'm going to use the hands to make a couple monkey paw displays and some adjustable led strobe lights I'm going to put into my GONK droid project. woohoo!

OK, Ultra you got me beat. We have a population of around 6k but in the summer it jumps up to around 10k.

that's good to hear you found some things to pick up!!! at least you didn't get skunked this year. the monkey paw idea sounds awesome let me know when you do that i'd love to check it out.

I'm in the same boat as you guys, almost. the town I live in is about 120,000 but seems a lot smaller (and I'm from NZ). If it wasn't for the uni this would only be a retirement town. My E-bay account gets thrashed living here. lol Biggest problem with that is you don't get the same 'sales' as you do in shops.

Good score on those skulls ultraman! Schliz, I wouldn't have pick you for living in a place that small with the stuff you make man. Your house must be pretty well known round Halloween lol :cheershttp://www.therpf.com/member.php?u=45547

Haha, actually people steer clear of it!!

I used to live in a bigger area but I guess I just have trouble adjusting to a small town.

Hahaha

I struggle with small towns. Nice for a weekend away but my interests demand population a lot of the time. Supplies shopping is always the hardest.

with all the small town guys coming together it makes me think we should start another thread on "alternative materials for prop making" since none of us can just run down to the store and buy certain name brand stuff we have to go to hardware shops and other places to find substitutes. it would be cool to see what people come up with here's an example;
we can't just go to the store and buy fx latex so we have to go get latex carpet adhesive.

Really enjoying this thread! Cool idea with the quad-copter harpe, Ultraman.:thumbsup
Schlitzie, your work is inspiring! Love the mummified goblin.
Finding 'alternative materials' isn't limited to just small town guys.
I live in a medium size city in southwestern Ontario and can't source any
local fx suppliers so hardware stores are my go to places.
You can make a decent mould using vinyl concrete patcher.

glad you liked the thread.....there are some awesome guys out there...like schlitzie his stuff gets better and better every year!
using vinyl concrete patcher for molding sounds interesting...are you using it to make the mold or for what you casting?!?!? feel free to post pictures we don't mind lol

I've used vinyl concrete patcher as a mould backer for brushed up latex moulds
and as the mould itself, for a fiberglass motorcycle fender. Was surprised how well
it worked for the fender.
For casting in the latex moulds I use Weldbond (white glue) as the 'gel' coat followed
by laminating with brown craft paper.
Seeing what you guys are finding at dollar stores, I should be shopping there more often.
