Sorry it's taken me so long to post this. I know several people were intrigued to know what went into my reactor. I hope it's not too disappointing, as the ingredients are pretty mundane.
This was my reactor:
I was hoping to build something like the reactor seen in Iron Man 2, where Stark ejects and replaces a used piece of Palladium.
The ingredients were as follows:
1 x Camping lantern
1 x Mini solar decklight
1 x Mini earphones set
1 x "Hanging swirly" garden ornament
1 x Hand-powered flashlight
1 x LED Inspection light with head strap
1 x Pack disposable razors
1 x Pack cable ties
1 x Pack of speaker wire
1 x Folding book light
2 x Corkscrews
4 x Mini tripod torches
1 x Highlighter pen
1 x Pack lighted tent pegs
Slightly rough photos of the parts:
Parts 1
Parts 2
Parts 3
Parts 4
I forgot to take photos of the little solar decklight before I started butchering it, so I found a photo of the same type on the Web:
Parts 5
I've put together a fairly extensive page covering the build here:
Building the Pound Shop Arc Reactor
But to save you some reading, the main mechanism uses the guts of two corkscrews fitted into the housing for a small decklight and detailed with parts from disposable razors and mini tripod torches:
The 'Palladium receiver' is made from the folding device from a book light and the end of a tent peg:
The front of the reactor is built around the storage case for a set of mini earphones. In the centre is part of the dynamo from a hand-powered torch. The metal grille is a garden decoration. The coil modules around the outside are made from more bits of disposable razors:
The electrics are housed in the drastically butchered body of a camping lantern. Although you can't see it in the photos, the lights go on and off when the unit is closed or opened to access the 'Palladium'.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted as well as everyone who took part. All the entries were of an extremely high standard and I feel very honoured to have been among the winners.
