Does anyone use mannequin bust to sculpt on?

Being on a strict budget, I am buying supplies a little at a time.

I just bought 25lb of WED clay from MonsterMakers and I was going to order their bust, but I found this on Ebay for considerably less money and thought about getting it:

Will clay stick to it? Is there a reason people use Hydrocal bust?

Well, clay should stick to it just fine, but you might want to double check the proportions.

A lot of mannequins tend to have exaggerated, art deco-like proportions, with longer necks, smaller heads, thinner faces, etc. The bust in your pic looks to have a really long, almost feminine neck that could mess up your sculpt, as well as having the shoulders canted a little to it's right.

I'd bite the bullet and get (or make!) a good, neutral head and shoulders cast of a real human being. It'll really pay for itself in the end. :)

Good luck!

Oh!- One reason to use a hydrocal (or better yet Ultracal) bust is that when you're done with molding and everything, you can fill it with water, let it soak for awhile and "float" the clay off. The stone will get saturated, and when the water comes to the surface, the old clay will mostly fall right off, making cleanup a lot easier. :)
