Does anyone else suspect Premiere Props of shill bidding on Ebay?

I am relatively new to prop collecting and Ebay, so I'm most likely wrong here...but does anyone else suspect that Premiere Props partakes in shill bidding on their own items under their ebay account premiereprops7?
I've purchased several items from them so far.
One thing I noticed is that usually when I click on the Bid History Details of the person who is in a bidding war with me, their account shows that 80-100% of their bids go to just PP, they won 4 or less items overall, yet bid about 75-100 times in the past month.
Is this indicative of shill bidding or are they just dedicated prop collectors who uses Ebay for nothing other than prop collecting?

Here is one example of one of the Bid History Details of another bidder on a PP Auction:

I'm going to add that this person's last bid ended in .99 instead of rounding it up to the next whole dollar.
Really? They're willing to "lose" by a penny after driving up the price big time?

If they lose they still have to pay......to keep the appeaance. If they don't pay then eBay want's to go after their cut......the final fee. If they are doing it then they better have a diff ISP....b/c eBay does watch.

It's a proven fact they do it in their live auctions... So I don't see why they wouldn't do it on the eBay ones as well...

Source please? I definitely believe it after all these frustrating Ebay auctions. Why can't they just post the minimum they're willing to accept to begin with instead of playing all these head games? :facepalm Time for me to research more sellers...

ebay would only actively look into a situation if it is brought to their attention.

If not, the buyer and seller simply have to fill out the standard & automatic 'cancel transaction' form on ebay, and all ebay fees would automatically be reversed without any human intervention, including the listing fee.

QFT, you beat me to it Alan :thumbsup

there is evidence of their shill bidding on another forum.....people have been taking screengrabs of items during auctions

I was thinking of reporting PremiereProps to Ebay, but then I decided against it because all I have is circumstantial evidence.

you can report it.....ebay will look into it to see if there is any funny business.....

you wont be getting into trouble if there is no evidence of proving shill bidding

:angelI caved in and just did it. Ebay has better resources to investigate it than I do...and I kinda really want to know considering all the stuff I bought from Premiere Props and all the stuff I am in the process of buying from PP.

You should read through all the other threads about them... It's all been explained in detail with people video taping the auctions and the activity that happens during them.

I have personally seen the two owners of the company say things to each other like 'Thats going to cheap, bid it up a little.' and then the other person raises their hand to bid. The real bidder was on the phone and continued to bid up against the owner of the company...

Read the story of the movie producer that consigned props to PP, then after they took _months_ to pay Joe Dante for the Gremlin he sold thru them, the producer changed his mind, pulled his items and went to PP to collect them. The owner later found he took his stuff back, and called the cops on him and reported that he stole the items. He had to 'turn himself in' to the police and explain what happened... Of course no charges were filed, but I'm convinced there's just something not right with the people at PP...

It would be interesting to go to a live auction so you can see the owners, yet bid via the internet or phone so they don't realize you're there. Then only bid when you're outbidding someone besides them.

I know both Joe and Tim but cant speak for them. Indeed nothing good to say about PP and their own experiences. They were in talks to have Tom Holland auction some items as well but hope I talked him out of it. Its a small circle when dealing with these people. Screw one over and they all know about it. Its as if Zap Brannigan runs PP or something, "If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes should fall like a house of cards. Checkmate."

I would recommend to anyone if they ever suspect shilling on ebay too go thru the motions. I can say that they do take the stuff seriously, just don't expect them to actually tell you what they do or how they do it.

As for PP shilling the items on ebay unbelievably enough I suspect they actually DO want the stuff to sell. Otherwise why let it end, then relist it cheaper until it does.

Rather than harp on about PP why not really go after someone like the bra sellers, star underwear dealers and people who sell tea sets from I love lucy.

I somehow suspect thats going to be more interesting than redigging this grave up every two months.

If you don't want to do business with them then don't....or check out yourprops every week and you will see much of the stuff selling to real buyers there who yes...some of them really do buy only from them...same with VIP.

I posted this thread because I'm new to prop collecting. I only found out about it a month ago. Premiere Props on Ebay is the only company I've dealt with so far and am currently bidding on some items from them. I started noticing some fishy things and that's why I posted this thread. I'm not trying to redigg graves and I cant harp on anything else because I haven't had any experience with anything else.

Well, of course they want it to sell, but they want it to sell for the highest possible price. If they are left as the 'winner', they will try the second chance offer first. If that doesn't work, they have no choice but to re-list it. Remember when they started every eBay auction at 99 cents? I got TONS of stuff at that price back then (yeah, really low-end stuff sure, but for 99 cents I didn't care). Now I don't think they list anything under $20... Even the crappy stuff...

Well, for one this thread is _about_ PP, not anyone else. And, for the most part, no one here is being conned by these people.
The trinket sellers have been reported to authorities repeatedly. Some of their accounts have been closed down, they just keep coming back. The stuff they sell sells for $20-30, so the people that buy it don't even think twice about whether it's real, they just trust that they got something from the film...

As for the bra/panty sales? I'm not too fussed about the _kind_ of people that want to by underwear worn by celebrities getting conned myself... If they are stupid enough to think celebs sell their underwear to the public, there's nothing _we'd_ be able to do to educate them... They are already living in a fantasy world (and I really don't want to know about the rest of their fantasies...)

I somehow suspect thats going to be more interesting than redigging this grave up every two months.

Re-digging up this grave is what keeps people educated. Just because _WE_ know PP is engaging in shady business practices, doesn't mean EVERYONE does, just like the OP. They are a legit business, they get legit pieces directly from the studios... They have far more going for them than the underwear peddlers. They aren't (directly) selling fakes, but they do what they can to nudge the price up as much as possible... Maybe not on every item (and I can't say for certain on the eBay listing, I've only seen it in the live auctions myself...)

Ultimately, if you are still spending in the range you wanted to spend on the item, then be happy that you are getting it. Yeah, there might have been some shill-bidding (or there might not have been), but if you are happy with the item (and know it's real, which I believe everything they sell on eBay is pretty legit), then don't worry about it. Focus on the cool item you have, not what might have happened when you bought it...

On eBay, there's several sellers that are well known like Propworx (seller ID linnear, also a member here), sunnyweebles (I believe also a member here), vipfanclubs, ectoplasm (Gary Tunnicliffe), hollywoodvault (has several IDs) even Propstore and Profiles in History sell stuff on eBay occasionally.. (I know there are more, that's just off the top of my head)... The list of ones to avoid is even longer. :) But, it's safe to say, if they are selling celebrity underwear or they are listing a lot of things for under $20 that all like stuff you could find in a thrift store, AVOID THEM...

If anything looks questionable, you can always ask about it (or the seller) here first.

And, if you want to buy direct, I'm sure you've seen websites like Propstore's (sponsor of this forum), Screenused.com, hollywoodhistoryonline.com, hollywoodparts.com, reelclothes.com, etc... Even Premiere sells direct on their website...

Enter the hobby cautiously... There is a lot of shady deals (and out-right fraud) that goes on daily, just like any other hobby. Ask questions, ask for history of a piece if you aren't sure where the seller got it, etc. If they say it has a 'COA', ask _who's_ COA it is... A lot of these sellers will just print their own, that's worthless... But if someone is re-selling something with a Propstore/Propworx/Screen Used/well-known seller COA, then at least there's a source you can go back to if you have more questions... (And even then, the COA could be fake, or could be given with a replica prop... Don't just assume it's all okay at that point).

And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. No one is going to sell a weapon from Star Wars for $500 no matter how 'badly they need some cash'... :cool

How do you know that?

Because if they did, the conclusion is that shill bidding doesn't exit on ebay.

Not

Shill bidders don't even have to have the same IP, or be the same person from the same PC. ebay does not waste (an enormous amount of) human resources to monitor all bids that come from low or zero feedback members.
