I really want to have a bash at recreating the Rani's Com bracelet on Monday It's such a great item. Studying the episode it looks like there were two versions used in production. A dummy version used in most shots, and a working hero version for one or two close ups. What to do though ? One version for a start has black blanking blocks on the strap, the other silver !! Recreating the dummy version will mean the replica wont look screen accurate when compared to the hero version, but the hero version looks absolutely naff when seen in close up !

Never thought of that, but the 8 blanking caps are different colours, black on the dummy and clearly silver on the hero.,

Another highly detailed design sketch, but I can't build anything with out em

From that make a template and cut out the four arms of the bracelet from 3mm plastic board.

smooth out any flsaws with filler and sand em down

Undercoat with primer, job done

What's that old saying, cutting a long story short ....... so editing out all the boring tube cutting stuff,

Tackling the digital face plate & housing...

The plan is to seal the red acrylic digital face plate inside the unit, sandwiched between the base and the frame. Once painted the plastic film can be carefully cut away with a fine craft knife to reveal the counter sunk acrylic display - hopefully

Finished for today, a quick stack up. Coming along nicely I think

Adding the pins so the bracelet will spring open and can be worn, final wet'n'dry sanding and the final undercoat

All the detailing has been cut out and coloured, the two main units have had their final top coat and everything is out in the hot summer sun to dry for a few hours. Time for a pint of lager shandy and a ploughman's lunch, then it's assembly time
