Doctor Strange

This might not be for me. Inception-style warped reality stuff leaves me cold.
And he's affecting a gravelly voice. Fake voice creakiness happens to be one of the things that drive me crazy.

I hate the character, am annoyed by the internet's Cumberbatch obsession, and basically had zero interest in seeing this, much like Thor and Ant-man, which I ended up enjoying a great deal. And yet again, this trailer got me, hook line and sinker. Looks like a trip and a half. Can't wait!

I have only ONE thing to say and one thing only about the teaser trailer...
Great hoary hosts of Hoggoth!

I didn't care much for the inception-style stuff as much either. I've got to believe they will honor the visuals of the comic (which are integral to the design) but are just holding them back for upcoming trailers. I want to see semi-corporeal objects. I want to see spells that cast forms in light like ribbon-tendrils or orbs (c.f. ditko).

I want to see this stuff:

It sounds petty but I kinda wish they kept his astral self blue instead of making it yellow.

That is super shiny. I'm actually really excited for this movie.

I agree that casting Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One was a weird move, but I'm hoping there's some kind of in-world explanation, like that's just how he perceives the Ancient One at first, but before he goes off on his own, we'll see the wizened Asian fellow he/she really is.

My knowledge of things Strange is due to crossovers and a few reads back in the day, I would never notice such things but I LOVE that you did! That is not petty that's character appreciation!

I'm guessing, for the film, the Ancient One is supposed to be both ageless and androgynous. Tilda Swinton makes sense in that capacity.

Strange was extremely watered down for the crossovers - even in the Defenders - simply because it would probably be too weird or confusing. I recall he did little more than shoot bolts or basic psychic stuff in those stories.

In his own dedicated comics some artists just went to town with the visuals which gave us such rich and lush artwork. The mythology is so wonderful you can build an entire cinematic universe just off his stories.

We didn't even get to see Wong in the trailer. My fingers are crossed that Tilda shape-changes, yo. She's a goddess.

I applaud Marvel for going in a VERY different direction from their prior 13 films. If the Marvel Studios banner didn't pop up, I think the average person wouldn't know this was a Marvel film. While I wasn't particularly impressed by the first trailer, I also think they're holding back on all the good stuff for a later reveal - trippy astral plane visuals, spectral monsters, etc. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.

This is why I am excited and should be a helluva ride through new realms for film goers.
Now if they could give Silver Surfer the same love. Sigh.

Quite sure this is the truth, as they only wrapped I think 2 weeks ago? I'm actually surprised they cranked out a trailer that looks 'this' good. Even though I know that a lot of CGI will be polished by the time the final cut is out.

Even sooner- NYC filming was this past Sat/Sun! They probably got the footage shot from Europe and Asia for this trailer, and saved the NYC battle scenes for the other trailers.

LOL

i pray he says that at least once!
I'm a little worried about that actually. It's probably the only thing that bothered me with the comics. The use of alliteration with the incantations made it feel like they were English language in origin so it never seemed logical for me. Also I think alliteration tends to work more in print than it does in a film ("V for Vendetta" was just insufferable.)

Sorcery was always about intent, anyways, so I'm also kind of hoping they avoid some of the alliterative spellcasting.
