Doc's foam/fiberglass work + Mark 42 painted pieces

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

Hey Doc! I can't figure out the pieces around the eye and were they go. Do you have any pics or vids for that? Thanks

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

around the eye is like a holder for lights or somthin, I always skip those pieces

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

Is there anyway to remove all the pieces from the 3d model except the piece you want to use?

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

Yo Doc!
I couldn't have gotten this sick finish on the suit without your methods of madness
Only have the arm/back to finish painting up
I'm only rockin' the top half of the suit for barhopping/parties and such this weekend

Thanks for all the help and patience through this thread and PMs :D

Sniggle,
That's a great way to rock the suit if I can't get mine finished in time for the next convention appearance..

Thanks for the idea! :D

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

only the designer can do that but you can just remove the piece in the 2D. Just select and move right off the paper.

Re: Ironman Mark VII coated with rondo, update one arm painted up w/pics

The paint on those looks fantastic[/QUOTE

Thanks Jeepychan

I just wraped piece of foam around wrist for snug fit, put some velcro to have it removable, dremeled lines into foam, plastic dipped and painted. Pretty simple but makes it flow together better. If u guys like that just wait till u guys see what im workin on for inner elbow. and ofcourse I'll explain how i did it. Thats why I made this thread to show u guys what a foam costume can really look like so any way I can help dnt hesitate to ask:D

what do you mean plastic dipped ? did you mean the plasti-dip ? or did you use a resin of some sort ?

BTW. the suit is AWESOME !!

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

So what do you use to seal the deal

lol havent read my thread I take it :lol jk I wrote the steps somewhere but here it is again...
i used this step
1. heatseal with heatgun
2. 1 coat watered down elmers
3. 2 light coat modpodge
4. 1 coat bulldog adhesion promoter
5. primer
6. paint
7. clearcoat and put bulldog adhesion promoter after to give it more flex

its basically the same just took out the plasic dip and switched adhesion promoters

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

Doc,
I noticed that early in these posts when you posted the pictures of your helmet, all of the jagged parts that are usally in the helmet (the faceplate for example) were smoothed right out.
the helmet in no way resembled anything made with foam.
Im assuming this was because of the rondo, sanding and rondo again.
with your new method (which still looks awesome) would you still recommend using rondo on areas that need to be more rounded and smoothed like that ?
and if so, would you still put it on in between the modpodge and the bulldog adhesion promoter ? (steps 3 and 4).

when i rondo a piece heres the steps

1. heat seal the piece
2. pva 1 coat or 2 coats modpodge
3. 2 thin coats rondo but sand between coats any runs or bumps
4. prime, black over spray then wetsand and glazed spot putty on dips you'll be able to tell low spots with black splatter left after wetsanding
5. after filling and smoothing prime it the paint and clearcoat

But I rarely use rondo anymore mostly my other method due to less work and still have an awesome finish plus way less toxic:)

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 boots

"Trust me" I can deffinitely tell that your finishes are awesome without the rondo. Unfortunately, my A.D.D and O.C.D doesnt allow me to do something unless I take the time to learn everything about it. And if i do that i will probably end up D.I.V.O.R.C.E. LOL
My Dad was a body man for 36 years, so i picked up a fre things from him. I know "bondo", and helped him fiberglass the entire underside of our 1950 15' wood hulled runabout when i was a kid. I just never thought of mixing the 2. :confused

Yup its built around a shoe, so it will be comfortable and not slip or sound funny when walking or look like snow boots :lol and be just like wearing regular shoes. Also they have a 1 inch lift on them:)

Re: foam with rondo+ new foam mark 8 glove and mark 6 and 7 boots

Awesome Mark VII boots, Doc!! Now I really am contemplating buying a sealed, unpainted pair :D

EDIT: Do we need to provide our own pair of shoes?
