Limited Run DL44 TFA Blaster Kit

If it is bluing to remove...White Vinegar...believe it or not.:)

Scrub with vinegar and 000 steel wool or scotch -brite for those tuff areas.

The metal is Zamac...mostly zinc. Some small surface scratches are good for "age"

Also, you don't want a "polished" metal surface to blue. It wont take as well as a lightly scuffed.

how did you get it that way, drush/dremel or chemicals?
I have tryed aceton, and paint stripper, did not work.(12 houres) Now im using some industry thinner, just have to see if that works

Aaaaaand I just screwed up bad.

I finished filing and sanding all of my pewter parts, got them all nice and smooth, cleaned, wet sanded. I go to pick up the large pewter scope bracket to dry it and it jumps out of my hand and onto the hard floor.

CRACK

The front vertical bar of the bracket has a crack all the way across and through. It flexes a bit so I know its all the way through. The back one seems solid. However, its a very tight crack, so I'm not sure if epoxy will be able to get in there and solidify it. I'm gonna try epoxy either way, but I just cant believe I did that after getting it all done.

If the epoxy doesnt help, is there any chance I could buy a replacement part? Or send this one to be melted down and recast for a fee?

Hello all, I really don't mean to brag about this but, I'm going to anyway! Look what I just picked up today at the Gun Show in sunny Costa Mesa CA. and I'm sure you all have a pretty good idea what I'm going to do with it and who I'm going to ask to help me with customizing the certain upper business end of it too!? This has turned out to be quite an amazing day for me!! Isn't she a real beauty?

Thanks, congrats on your score Tomm! I myself still don't have an MGC of my own yet, which is quite strange that it's so much easier to get your hands on a real Mauser than it is to get an MGC nowadays!? I thought I'd surely own an MGC way before ever being able to afford a decent looking real Broomhandle!?!? A real one is still a little more $$$$ but, not too far off from what sellers are asking for an MGC, I just got lucky I guess....
Sorry to get off topic, my bad!

I'm sorry, mistook yours for a MGC, even better to score a real Mauser (alot better). Sorry for thread hijack, back on topic, super cool of Dave stepping in to help out with the broken mount!

Got my aluminum side plates glued on, had to sand the edges a bit so they didn't cut or dig into my hand when holding, but all good now! I only stripped enough paint for the areas that I know will have metal showing through the new paint layer.

what needs to be done in order for it to fit a denix?

The TFA grill is larger so you will have to fill in some gaps on the denix mag well,
the TFA barrel and/or the denix barrel might have to be filed to get the TFA barrel to fit up against the bevels of the denix,
you will have to get longer mount studs, they are 10-32 thread
I think that's about it

Hey doc,
If you want smoother edges you can use steel filled epoxy to fill the small seams and edges if you want. the steel fill will bluing too. Test it and see if it works for you.

Looks great !

For the grill, you can also try squeezing the grill slightly in a vice to close the gap a bit...but don't do it if you are fraidie- scared ! ; )

wow i didnt even think of that! it makes total sense. i have to re read this entire thread I've been in and out of it and not very steady. i need to find the right gun to order for this kit and where to order it, along with the short clip that is required

thanks for the reply

First rough fit, still gotta do more sanding. Aside from the part where I drilled the bolt holes just a smidge crocked, I'm really happy with it purely because swinging it around and making blaster noises makes me feel like a kid again. So thanks a million for doing another run, Dmac.

To move to questions, I know there's the two camps of painting and bluing and I think I'm gonna join the painting camp. I scanned back through the run and I may have missed it, but what kind of paint am I going to need?
