Limited Run DL44 TFA Blaster Kit

I realize this is super picky, but is there a reason the grill was not cast with the beveled edges on the ribs like we see in the Wired image? Your grill has a flat edge. I suppose this could be corrected with a file, but it would be quite a bit of work.

I am doing further hand sanding to try to get as much exposed aluminum as possible. There are a few spots where the paint seems to be deeper in the metal, or is in a crevice and it is a challenge to get to.
The alu black will show up any spots where the paint is left really clearly as a ugly grey color , and those spots are likely to in places where the gun should not be worn at all ( totally black from the blueing) belive me i found out by trial and error ;)
so just take the time and get it all clean

This kit is not made from the Wired one, that one looks too pointy this kit is made as close as possible to what was shown in the movie.
There are a few thousandths of an inch taper on the fins but the "hero" shot looks pretty flat to me.

Got mine. I love when you can see and feel the result of quality craftsmanship.

Thanks to everyone above that provided feedback on paint removal and "Aluminum Black". Too bad I will not be able to work on this until later this weekend. I hope to see lots of updates from others building theirs too.

This shot from rom the poster looks pretty beveled to me, but yeah it's not entirely clear. Either way, I still love the kit!

Mine arrived last night! For my first DEC Parts I'm absolutely in love with the quality! Thank you Dave!!

Got mine yesterday. Beautiful kit.

On another note, I took apart the HFC gun, and started to strip the paint. It has been soaking in acetone for the past day, and the paint is still not coming off. I also tried Citrustrip stripping gel. Neither of them are working. Is there something else that can strip the "paint" off, or do I need to start sanding?

some used just paint thinner or mineral spirits and seemed to work fine.
They may add some details but an aluminum pan and thinner. Gloves and glasses : )
and use 0000 steel wool to "help" the thinner work. Light scuffing so you don't wear off edges!

I finally gave up on the paint strippers. Nothing was working. I even tried burning it off with a propane torch, and it didn't even phase it.

I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a cheap abrasive blaster kit, and used 3 boxes of baking soda. It took it right off. Only took about half an hour to do the entire gun. I highly recommend it. The baking soda is strong enough to remove the paint, but it won't damage the metal at all.

Lucky you didn't melt the Mauser! :)

i don't think it's paint. It likely a blueing agent or oxidizer.

Try viniger and a toothbrush.

My original plan was to use Aluminum Black on everything, but I am not sure if it will blend with the plastic piece mounted on the side. Does anyone have any suggestions? If not, then I think that I will paint the main pieces of the gun.

Aluminum Black on the flash hider and the scope. I am going to eventually take some steel wool to the flash hider and take some of the black down.

has anyone had any issues with usps delivering to UK? track and trace shows as delivered this morning however i have not left the house and nothing has come. unfortunately the USPS site is crap. when you try to email a query unless you are in the US you cannot complete it due to inability to select uk from the drop down lists
