DIY Metal Display Plaques

Has anyone tried making their own display plaques similar to the ones that come with the MR Lightsabers? I've noticed a bunch of people using the toner transfer paper method on PCB boards and wondered if the same thing would work on simple metal plaques?

I was thinking of the following steps as a test:

1)Print the negative image onto Staples Glossy Photo Paper
2)Iron the image onto a small metal plaque
3)Soak off the paper
4)Apply a clear coat onto the image so it won't scrape off

Seems like it might work in theory if it can work on copper board.

don't know if these are considered DIY. But a lot of custom plaques were offered by gatorbait9696 and pastor jedi.

and you can buy those MR plaque stands... it's in a link somewhere in one of those above links

I highly recommend both the sellers above - great guys to deal with :thumbsup

After you have soaked off the paper you could use an electrolysis process to etch the metal.
If so, you would are ethcing into anything which is not covered by the tone transfer. It gives a really nice and professional look and feel.
A simple electrolysis bath could consist of just vinegar, salt, a small battery and some wires.

Also, if you are on a budget you could substitute the Photo Paper with glossy magazine pages.
