District 9 Assault rifle finished pg. 5

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

What about the home vinyl decal cutting machine's. my friend has one. but he works so much and live's in another state. It would take awhile to get everything sorted out. depending On how small the detail would be. give me an Idea of what you need and I could ask. wouldn't cost you a dime If he can do It.

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

Thanks for the offer, Sean. I'll think about it If my way doesn't work.

A few of the symbols are done. The two canisters are already clear-coated. I messed up the big one a bit, the scale markings that go above the black pocket should be on both sides, but I incorrectly positoned the other graphic. So I just drew one scale. The black lines are mostly black permanent marker, orange is spray paint and white is airbrushed.

Does anyone have good pictures of the left side of the gun? I'm having trouble finding hi-res pictures of the white markings on that side.

Looks like your doing a great job on the graphics. man I can't wait to see her done. wish I could help with the pic's you need. I have the movie but I don't screen capture.

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

Your markings look very clean. Here is the only pic I have of the left side of the gun.

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

Thanks for the pictures guys. I have enough material now to make stencils. I decided to make simplified stencils and airbrush the thick parts of the glyphs and later fill in the details with a white marker. I just need to buy the right marker.

I went to check the movie again and the graphics are different on the movie gun than on weta replica, so I don't feel bad about any mistakes.

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

could you put a .22 pellets rifle in that?

I think you could put a .22 pellets rifles making factory in this.

The graphics are done. In the end I used a combination of airbrushing, white permanent marker and white enamel paint to make them. I've also done the final assembly today after clearcoating the gun. I'll take some pictures after I do some passes with washes. Here are some teasers to help you wait.

So impressed with this scratch build. One of my favorite movie guns and you have done it proud! Very, very cool. Congrats!

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

Hey Ziga. I was meaning to ask. do your markers are the pins you use ever give you a bleeding problem on top of the paint? got something coming up were I would like to use that solution maybe.

And let me say again. You did an absolutely fantastic job on this rifle.

Re: District 9 Assault rifle WIP

Thank you for compliments and thanks to the regular vistors and commenters for sticking to the end. Here's another picture that shows the gun in direct sunlight and in the shade. I'll also upload a photo of me holding it shortly. For scale and whatnot.

If anyone would ever be interested of using my gun as a reference for their build, I'll be willing to offer more detailed pictures, and a list of all the things I changed deliberately in comparison to Weta replica and of things I messed up.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I used Faber-Castell markers over acrylic paint with no problem and clearcoated over them with no problem. One reason why I like them (that I didn't mention before) is that the black ones are black, not dark dark violet like some.
The white one I used is this one: Pilot Super Color White Paint Markers - Cult Pens
It's one of those liquidy markers. The extra fine size is about 0.8 mm, which was thick for my application, so I didn't use it alot (the two curvy lines on the top of the graphic on picture #5 were done with it). Like the black one it went onto and under acrylic spray with no problems. I haven't done any washes directly over the markers, so I'm not sure about that.
