Dissecting the MR PREDATOR 2 SPEAR

Like many of MR products... they need taken apart and or the paint stripped off so they can be done properly...this was no exception. ive put this up here incase anyone else was thinking about doing this so i hope it helps.

since i was going to strip off the joke that was the paintjob i decided to take the spear tips off too.

firstly there is no way you can pull them out, as you can see from the pic they are well glued in and dont go down very far.

i dremeled the shafts which left me these stumps, i poured some acetone onto the glued parts and left it to soften. 10 mins later i was able to scrap the glue out.

got it all cleaned up and drilled 10mm holes where the red circles are. this is as far as i have got at the min. i could not believe it but the spear is actually hollow:eek. it weighs a ****ing tonne

gotta think what kind of tubing i want or even wooden dowels might be an option to have the spear fully opened.:unsure

Nice job. I have a spear but no spear tips, so mine looks a lot like yours right now!

at least yours is a screen accurate casting, not this thing they "made up"

:unsure

Chris, as far as i know, both the MR spear and the casting Hez has are cast from the same original spear.

Looking forward to seeing how you make it open. I bet it will be huge!

Keith.

I didn't know that.
So does anyone know why the MR is different and is it accurate to any screen used spear?

Keith.

there seems to be more than one screen spear e.g. a long and short version. not meaning one opened and one closed btw.

the MR is close but no cigar, who knows where they got that version from??

there are a few differences.

also there is no way to put a tube all the way through on each of the outer sections (where my red circles are) as the spear casing narrows down. one of the holes i drilled had the drill bit come out the side of the casing. (no i didnt drill it squint:love)

ive gone through the dvd and cant get it to match anywhere:unsure

Heh, heh. Hez, were did you get that casting? :cool

Oh...somewhere. The sad thing is it's still in the same condition as when I got it! :lol

One thing that seems apparent is that there were some differently scaled props on P2. Some scaled for KPH's costume (i.e. for someone over 7' tall) and another for stunt work, with someone a lot smaller. Most of the props available from P2 are from the smaller scale, rather than the KPH scaled suit.

Just thought that might be relevant given the sentence earlier about the 'long' and 'short' spear.
