Disney wants more 'Star Wars' in its theme parks

… hell could you imagine a slave one?
Holy cow, yes.

--

I've mentioned this before season 1 of The Mandalorian; the overall sentiment greatly favors the OT Universe over the rest, with the ST Universe coming-in last. This applies to the parks' themes, and more specifically merchandise.

This comes from someone I know very well who's at Disney in Burbank, on the entertainment distribution end.

Even back then I was told there were already discussions of re-theming the parks with OT Troopers and Officers, among other things.
Since then all the D+ streaming shows have revolved around the OT Universe.

Will the rebranding and changes lead to everyone carrying walkie talkies instead of blasters?
Yes.

Until it is decided that walkie talkies are offensive.
I'm guessing the reason will be something along the lines of walking while talking is a privilege and therefore should be abolished.

I predict that, before the end of this decade, we'll see Troopers and Rebels engage in combat using jazz hands.

Disney World’s struggling $5,000 Star Wars hotel slashes prices, cancels summer dates

The initial buzz that helped fill Disney coffers with galactic credits has turned into a concerning quiet in the halls of the Halcyon — the Star Wars starship at the center of an immersive storytelling hotel experience.

The YouTubers who got to go for free were not very enthusiastic about it. Maybe the average person wants more for their money than 36 hours on a fake ship. For 5k you can fly to Florida, and stay at a Disneyworld resort with park tickets for 4 days.

Clickbait nonsense.

They've offered a small discount on other Disney Resort stays before or after your Starcruiser voyage, the price nor frequency of which hasn't budged. (Both of which you would expect to see before any changes are required.)

It's the most ambitious and unprecedented project the company has undertaken since Snow White. (And still in a category of its own, with no competing experiences yet attempted by anyone else.)

They've released calendar availability in multiple segments -- none of which took even the slightest attempt to lower the number of voyages per week. They're still loading in voyages the same day the previous voyage loads out. They could easily load in the next day without a single "off" day on the calendar, or go to one or two voyages a week, or even operate seasonally and still turn a profit. But none of those things have happened, even a year later. Which I would consider a resounding success. Think of it like a Broadway show. How many Broadway shows need to sell out every single show in order to be a success? Virtually none. This thing was structured like a cruise on purpose, and cruises have a lot of operational levers they can pull to expand and contract as needed.

Starcruiser isn't going anywhere, and I can't wait to go back.

Its a hotel....not a cruise ship, major difference. The mere fact that they are cancelling hotel...correction 'Departure dates' in the heat of summer traffic, is a very big tell. There are plenty of black out dates in the article referenced above, and thats not the only article that has caught on. The problem with this Starcruiser, is the lack of Star Wars. I want to visit Tatooine, not Batu or whatever they call it in Star Wars land these days. I had heard a rumor that every time Disney mentions or uses an original charachter, they have to pay royalties. Thus the lack of original characters, places etc.

Calling Starcruiser a hotel (it's not) would be like looking at the first car and calling it an expensive chair. Does it have a place to sit? Sure it does, but only to enable the actual function of its existence.

(And your conspiracy nonsense about "original" characters is laughably untrue. Disney owns the property outright.)

There are plenty of people that get a cut. Its widely known Spielberg and Lucas swapped percentage points on Close Encounters and Star Wars.

Disney bought Lucasfilm, but didn't buy everybody's percentages. Lucas would have been dumb to not keep a percentage of what he created.

Pretty sure the 4 Billion dollar paycheck chased away any concern about royalties.

The ST is evidence that Disney is still obligated to pay some royalties.

Han & Luke & Leia were all killed off. Tatooine became Jakku. The Falcon got a new dish. Threepio got a red arm. R2-D2 was semi-replaced with BB-8. Lukes landspeeder was turned vertical. The X-wings & Tie fighters & AT-ATs all became slightly different models. The Disney SW theme parks are portraying all ST-era stuff.

Since the sale to Disney they have been ditching the Lucas-era hardware as quickly as they can without making it obvious.

It didnt. The principle actors took a smaller paycheck for royalties off of things like toys etc. And we all know how the Kenner Action figure/playset market took off from there. They were set for life.

Since it provides a place to sleep and charges for that service, I call it a hotel. You might call it a magical galactic groundbreaking experience, but at the end of the day, its goverened by Florida State Inn keeping rules and laws. IE a Hotel.

Well, actually, the original trilogy actors did not get anything for the marketing of the toys. The prequel actors, all did, and the sequel actors all did. I believe the original trilogy had to go to court to procure that no extra money from the royalties.

Not until they recreate the world of Ewoks: The Battle For Endor will I be even remotely interested in Disney’s Star Wars Land…

I demand to have the opportunity to snap a selfie with a Disney Parks’ Wilford Brimley cosplayer.
