Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I think it would be cool, (if it could be done without damaging the model), to take the saucer apart in order to put some little 1:350 scale Enterprise crew figures on the bridge. It would give it some life.

Yeah not sure if it's possible. Again those plugs are hard plastic and have decals on some of them as well. (The NCC 1701) So you would be compromising them as well. Best to just leave it alone...

If man were meant to fly … ;)

I used the old school hot glue stick method to pull the little front grille piece off the HT Delorean to do some electrical mods. I might try that on one of the starboard side plugs when I eventually give in to the foolish need to automate everything. That side is not fit to display anyway (for me, it’s the Mirror Mirror no-filming side). Now, if Tomy would offer a plug replacement kit for sale after the warranty expires …

Even if Tomy offered a plug replacement kit the colors would not match with the various shadings going on !

Good point. I would need fully painted plugs. But if they just painted them in place then no joy.

At some point, one of us will risk it. This is the RPF after all.

say whaa? groovy! Who is this swanson character? where is that quote pulled from?
Glen Swanson has probably done more research and written more information on the history of Star Trek models than anyone. He has covered the entire history of the AMT kits, variations, and more. He’s absolutely obsessed with the models and a really wonderful guy.

So there’s a lot of discussion here and on several FB groups about the TOMY Enterprise’s balance and the need for the saucer support. So I took a chance and set the model on a flat table and it’s perfectly balanced. So the load on the 2 pins on the stand is straight down with no shear load.

I don’t think the main concern is the ship tipping forward but the strength of the connecting dorsal. Time will tell as I’m not using the saucer support on mine.

Ship with no stand. That's what you call going commando!

If they do I would suggest a mini suction tool vs. digging into with micro screwdriver as it will gouge the paint in the area. TBH I would leave em alone
ref=sr_1_9

I would give something like this a try before digging in the plugs area or a small vacuum sucking pen tool

I think the PR played into the poor response to the crowdfunding, but it was just one part. The other part and one I think that’s more unfortunate is that the TOS items just aren’t appealing as the old dog Trek fans (waving hand) are getting fewer and far between. It’s generations from today and the new series and you’ve got the much more updated and prevalent movie ships and new series. So the Refit and D are more likely to grab backers as possibly is the new SNW E.

In a way I can’t help wonder if Tomy saw the TOS E as a test bed for what they can or can’t do before tackling much more involved projects with intricate hulls and stealing, and way more lighting.

singling tomy employees out by name and slandering them professionally in attempt to get them fired is what's a tad offensive. i would imagine they anticipated nitpicks, otherwise they wouldn't have sprung for refunds.

i'd love to get an honest answer out of somebody at Tomy as to whether they consider this project a success or not, and if there's any hope at all for another ship. is anybody willing to take one for the team and drive up to idaho and see if chris@tomy gets loose lips during pillow-talk?
By the way, it's not Idaho, it's Iowa.

It's nothing for anyone to get offended about. Looking at them in person and not at a zoomed in picture....the little nicks are barely noticable. One would have to be told about them. I actually think it's interesting and does not bother me at all. I have a lot of little 1/64 diecast and many have little imperfections. Gives them a bit of charm....:)
I posted the original pic with Kirk & Spock and I didn't notice it until it was reposted with the defects pointed out! Even then I had to look really hard to see it.

i hope you're right. guess we won't know anything till next summer, when they presumably announce the next project. although that gorndamned DeLorean set a dangerous precedent. funded within hours, quadrupled it's goal. that obviously is going to turn a clear profit, at 1/2 to 1/3 the production cost (i'm guessing) of the enterprise. just doing a Ghostbusters hearse or a Mach 5 (or, Gorn save us, a K.I.T.T. or a General Lee) is going to look mighty tasty come july, for a lot less hassle and lot more cash, i fear.

(but gornammit if the mach 5 came with working retractable buzzsaw blades and an underwater bubble canopy i'd have to buy the gorndamned thing now wouldn't i. oh and don't forget a working bird drone.)
Funny, all I want is a Refit!

Me too...I hope I'm right. They have the license so why not make more?

Glen Swanson who claims to have participated in the TOS Enterprise project says more is on the way:

"Tomy is working on other models that will be part of their new Star Trek Prestige Select line. They have learned from their mistakes and despite what you may have heard, they do listen to their customers."

So I'm hoping praying he's right. And yeah I to would love to see any of those vehicles you mentioned! : )
I am hoping he's right. I also hope that when they do they do the Refit, they make it a plug-in!

I messaged Tomy about the missing plug (the blue one top ford one on the dorsal) and they responded...

Thank you for your email.

Is your address the same as the one lower in this email, so we can help you?

On the underside of the base there is a code (1 letter, 4 numbers, 2 letters and 2 numbers). Please email me the code.

Thanks Dan

"A" is the perfect complement to the TOS E. It would probably also be much less expensive to manufacture than the other three.

If multiple follow-up models are coming I'd much prefer the Klingon D7 be next.

The Klingon D7 is of no interest to me. For me, it pales in comparison to the original Enterprise. When compared to the Refit.....forget about it! It's the Refit for me!
