Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

That's awesome! And for sure! All those factors are involved in taking care of a prized replica!

But I still think it's a risk buying something so old that relies on electronics, even from someone who has taken great care like you have! If monies wasn't an issue I would take chance and buy one and feel it wouldn't be much of a risk, but unfortunately I am not made of money! 3 grand and up is a lot to take a risk on! : )

Sadly the electronics will fail on most collectibles of this sort eventually.

Same story with the MF from the same company: lights not working well after a few years. Mine is fine for now;)
In the Data center industry, almost all servers are simply replaced after 8-10 years of continuous use as a pre-emptive measure. Electronics will eventually fail. Most often its just a simple capacitor drying up. But replace that and another will go. Cheaper and Easier to just get a bigger, better , faster replacement. And these boxes spend their entire lifetime in a climate controlled data room.

The electronics in any model will last a long time - but I am willing to bet anyone who had their MR running 24x7 is seeing failures by now. LEDs last a really long time, but also won't last forever, especially if they are bright. Likewise, if kept in a variable environment more problems are likely to come up.

I would totally be happy about the plugs - if they had been placed on the port side. Being able to get in and replace the electronics is a positive in my book.. The stand being what it is and on the "clean" side is just painful. Just a little more engineering and thought would have gone a long way in making the model superb at this price. Some additional re-enforcement of the saucer connection to allow it to be displayed without support and flipping the screws to the opposite side would have gone a long way to avoiding the cancellations.

I don't really agree. Solid state electronics along with LED lighting greatly increase the lifespan here. I mean how often do you actually turn the lights on and for how long? I've probably run my MR Enterprise a total of 10 minutes since I bought it when it first came out. While, sure some things can fail at some point and nothing is perfect or forever I think you are being a bit pessimistic.

My QMx Serenity BDR electronics developed a glitch. The scrolling grav-rotor lights flicker instead of scroll. It took a couple of years to develop this glitch. I’ve communicated with the builder John Eblan but he didn’t have any suggestions for me. I hate the idea of cracking it open.

Wow…never knew the falcon had the same problem! I Wonder if the falcon is easier to fix than the Enterprise. oh well nothing last forever, that’s for sure!

Yeah I saw that one before. Very very close. Though the green is not as visible..but very close.(edit: haha. I see that that is yours)

I did not expect the Tomy to be anywhere near that good. Especially after seeing all the update videos over the last year. The Tomy caps need even more frosting it would appear. As for the rotating there are three settings. So we will have to see wit the naked eye on how close it is....

Arent the nacelle caps also called the Bussard Collectors??? Idk for sure....lol

Maybe and maybe not. I don't have air-conditioning right now. It can get up to 90 degrees in my house in the summer.

Haha. Yeah I some he green on the right now. It's the closest I have seen on all the videos I have watched so kudos to you.

Watching your videos on YT. I noticed you also do not have the (not sure what people call them).... but the little side lights on the saucer that blink in synchronization with the port and starboard top and bottom saucer lights. The Tomy just has them painted on. Also the top round window on the saucer. Did you omit these for aesthetic reasons...?

Thanks!
They never lit in the original series. That’s why I omitted them.

Ya know I think I am glad I kept my order. I think this piece even with its shortcomings is still going to be a nice replica. Especially with the exorbitant prices on the secondary market for the MR Enterprise. Plus with the age of the MR Enterprise, problems are beginning to show based on what I read on other threads...drooping saucer, oil splotches, bad electronics etc etc. So investing serious monies in a 10+ year old model doesn't make sense anymore.
I have a MR and it's doing just fine. Rationalize buying a TOMY however you want, but don't do it by saying unjustified things about MR.

Hey be cool. It's a replica not a life saving device. Glad your MR is doing fine but with others they are having problems. Whats wrong with stating that? I feel bad for those people and while its not the end of the world they spent hard earn monies on that replica. But bringing that up on a board discussing the justifications for not buying or buying the TOMY is valid on thread like this. Cool your panties.

Your Enterprise is beautiful but there are pages of MR issues right here in the RPF. Electrical failures (lights and fans), saucer sag, and nacelle cap oil spotting aren’t unjustified.

I don't mean to sound like I'm starting an argument. I only mean to say in my experience the MR is holding together well in spite of regular operation and display. If I sound critical of TOMY it's only because I was tempted to pick one up and like many others here I'm shocked at the final production.

Nothing personal. If you buy it I hope you enjoy it.

My panties are just fine.

Hey no big deal. I am glad you enjoy your MR Enterprise and that everything is working great. I for one am envious. It's a great piece. But for others, problems are developing and I feel bad for them for it is a costly item. Yes, like I said it isn't the end of the world, but people do spend their hard earned cash on these items and they, like you, treasure them.

For that reason and for the age of the item it isn't worth it for me to want to or wish to invest in the MR Replicas Enterprise anymore. So the TOMY while not perfect will suit me especially after watching the videos that were recently posted. I liked what I saw.

That's all that I was saying. I was not trying to attack any MR Enterprise owners. It's a primo replica. One of the best and there is no disputing that.

And I am glad your panties are fine. (y)
