“The model was originally advertised with three options: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate, with a total of 2,500 units produced. (Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 2, Issue 11, p. 84) The Standard model was 33 inches long and came fully painted and assembled with a base, priced at $795 USD. The Deluxe model, based on the Standard model, additionally featured working lights for the windows, navigation beacon, and warp nacelles, priced at $1,295 USD. The Ultimate model, based on the Deluxe model, was limited to 150 produced, had sound effects, and included an autographed plate on the base signed by William Shatner. Priced at $1,495 USD, the Deluxe model had sold out by October 2002.”

Yikes…

As bad as who says? There’s only two of us here who have got it in hand on this and other forums, and we’re both keeping ours.

But the photos are fairly representative of what it looks like in hand. Though everything always looks better in person as your able to fully appreciate the size and feel of the piece.

However, I didn’t take them in the best lighting and I used my old phone camera too. As I’m not an affionado, I’ll let others critique its many discrepancies.
As bad as what was written in the email! LOL I supplied a pic of the email and they said the seams are plugs aren't perfect!

Robert Meyer Burnett covered the Tomy Enterprise, tonight.

He was not pleased with the difference between what people were “shown” vs. what was “delivered”.

It‘s just his usual Star Trek rant.

Anyway it seems like he’s unaware of what’s been posted here, as he was just referencing the email that Tomy just sent out; probably due to questions raised here and elsewhere after the photos were posted.

I can’t wait for him to realise it’s probably made worse because of the base design. Though it’s been on the finalised instructions since March, it’s one thing to see graphical representations, it’s another to see photos of how it’ll actually look.

I've decided I'm not giving it the couple days. Really, the stand tips it into the really unworkable for me. It's just such a gawdy monstrousity. It has it's points, but there's much better things I'd like to put my money towards. 2 more in the cancel bin.

Anyone teetering on their decision should just cancel, as they’re sure to regret it later down the line.

I spend way too much on this stuff, so $600 is barely a drop in the bucket. Heck it’s barely 2 EXO-6 figures, let alone the more expensive Hot Toys figures.

EXO-6’s new Lt. Saavik figure just went up for preorder for $270 and honestly I find their stuff to be subpar relative to other licensed studios. Still, I preorder their stuff, as they’re the only game in town.

So if you ask me if I would rather have 2 1/6 scale figures, or this ship. This ship would win handily.

I've asked for a full refund. I will post up if it shows up (Refund) Truth is I could have tolerated the holes on one side but the holes are everywhere and I just can't unsee the underside of the saucer section. Just a Huge disappointment, I'm sure the pitch guys were disappointed as well as they were the face of the project.

Looks like the floodgates have opened.

I wonder how many here will be cancelling and how many will be keeping their orders?

50 / 50 I'm sure. If I didn't have the MR Enterprise already I probably would have kept them. Now it just would have annoyed me to look at them. One was going to be a gift

The Unibtainium Enterprise…

Is that the one whose nacelles were known as the “saggy bottom boys”?
yep leaching resin and hidden pegs in green screen edited out in the final production edits to hold of the nacelles and the saucer section. They knew their product was garbage.

Three more. I just emailed and requested a cancellation/refund too.

Could have lived with the seams for the price, but like yourself the base was ultimately the deal killer for me.

I look at it this way. For $600 shipped for a die-cast metal model 1/350 scale, full lighting effects, saucer separation, dual display, complete paint and decals, and solid as a rock it’s more than worth it.

Yes they should have had the “ugly side” of the screw covers on the same side as the saucer stand. Yes the saucer stand could have been at the tip of the delta so it wasn’t cockeyed. And yes they never, ever should have promised to cover the seams and screw holes to be invisible which isn’t possible on die-cast metal at those costs.

Regardless, it’s impossible to get that combination of features for that price. A PL model, lighting, construction, shipping, and more would put it way over that. I’ve priced builders and they want double or more. The MR is double and even triple that. And none are a sturdy, solid metal that won’t sag, droop, bend, and will last a long time. This isn’t an Unobtanium model.

Perfect? Nope. First shot for Tomy on such a project? Yep. So will they learn for next time? They aren’t a fly by night company so most likely yes. Also compared to Factory Entertainment with their $15K ships (also with flaws) and what I’ve read about PL pre-built (and their flaws), this still comes out way ahead.

I’m sticking with my order. Not a hard core perfectionist (no such thing as perfection IMO) and don’t have the skills to do something so massive and involved especially with lighting to that degree so for those out there like me this will be fine.

And I hope they do learn and do come out with 1701A as it’d be spectacular.

I was on a work call for the past 40 minutes so I wasn’t able to answer all the queries coming in. Thanks Pebble for picking up the slack.

Anyway, with regards to the unlit widows, there are quite a few all over the ship. BUT, they’re not actually windows for any LED’s. I had to double check when I noticed it the next day, but they’re actually painted grey windows.
This is how it's supposed to be. This windows were never lit on the show.

After a good night's sleep, I'm leaning more towards canceling my orders.

Another one bites the dust.

The photos and comments made by Pebbles and myself have made such an impact on so many customers decisions regarding cancelling.

If we were having the opposite effect, I would've said Tomy owed us a commission due to our significant effect on their sales.

The irony being, that we're both keeping ours.

At this rate of going, I'm glad we are not on commission as we would be broke for sure!

Over the last 12 hours, I've reviewed pictures, videos and a wide range of opinions and have decided to cancel my order. Multiple reasons, in order of importance to me:

- Visually, the seams and plugged assembly holes are too distracting from the overall appearance. TOMY committed they'd be filled as it was recognized early on that they would not represent an accurate representation of the ship we love.

- The stand, it has become a behemoth on it's own growning significantly since originally presented. It draws too much attention from the beauty of this classic ship.

- The checkerboard paint job on the saucer. Not sure why that's there, but reference photos from the Smithsonian's break-down of the ship do not have them. I don't remember seeing them in the show, either.

So, I will be letting TOMY know I'm cancelling. I wanted one for me and not to re-sell later or have someone else attempt to fix the build issues. It was simply buy and enjoy, which TOMY advertised and continued through updates assuring us we'd get, and TOMY has failed. I'm very disappointed to not get what was promised after 15+ months of waiting.

AND, if my wife saw the plugged holes, she'd be questioning every purchase going forward and I CAN"T HAVE THAT!!! :)
