dexter watch

yes ofcourse the watch isnt pure gold, hell you know what that would really be worth other than its Dex's watch, my father has a family heirloom that is an old pocket watch back from when my great grandfather was very wealthy, its very old and its completely made out of 22kt gold, not plated. was appraised at $22k years ago, dont even want to know what its worth nowadays. But yes this watch is gold plated as DP said. my thoughts exactly DP on what to do with the watch, but the dials are gold plated (look at DP's pics of his first gold watch pics before and after on the previous page) and going to have them silver plated as well. to save $ might have them see if they have some other dials that are not gold and that are silver and switch them out so then they only have to silver plate the seconds dial as you can't change that because of the red arrow at the end. But i got a steal of a deal on the watch so even puttin extra $ into it will still keep me cheaper than what others will be going for next when they pop up on ebay. last one besides the one i got, went for over $400 and i expect it to only go up higher on the next auctions if people really want this watch this bad. i guess i can just say i managed to check ebay at the and right moment yesterday, probably minutes after it went up and saw the buy it now price and could believe my eyes and could not resist knowing the seller had no idea what he could have got it for and that i wouldnt find another this cheap again unless i found one in pieces, broken and missing parts. But thanks for the info everyone :thumbsup now have to complete the watch mission
DP what brand and style is the band you have?
and just ordered the kill bag today and waiting to get my kill knife as it will be the first one i buy

Rbeato,

In over 30 years in watchmaking I've never seen a pocket watch case made of 22K gold so I have my doubts.....just too soft for jewelry although I've seen gold jewelry out of India made of 22K. If you ever want to send me high res pics and of the front , back, inside case if there are any numbers or markings and of the dial and movement I might be able to give you a more accurate history of your family heirloom.

As for the dial....you can have the "seconds dial" and the sweep second hand with the arrow changed if you want.

if i can find any #'s on the pocket watch ill get them to you, but seriously, it says 22kt on the inside of the case, and a few more, have had it looken at by many jewelers in the past and all confirmed it was not gold plated as the did the rub it on that stone and put the acid on it. but will try to get you the info. But like i said this watch is probably 80+ years old and purchased when my great grandfather (who i never met) was one of the richest men in Cuba before Castro came into power.

and yes 22kt gold would be very soft but its a rather thick casing, and simply amazing to look at. will try to get any #'s it may have as well as pics.

as for my gold dexter watch i dont mind if they have to change the minutes and hour hands into something silver and close looking, but will definitely have to have them plate the seconds hand silver due to the red arrow that i want kept on the watch as i like that very much on it lol

damn the jewelers in my town suck, none seem to do replating of watches, even just the bezel and frame. i did drop it off at one who sends it off to a watch guy of theirs that may be able to do it. and a bunch of online stores that offer all the services i need will not take the job for some reason.
and btw underneath the gold there is no copper, just base metal.

Rbeato, on my waltham the watch hands are gold toned like the hour bars. Just thought you'd like to know. I got one thats dead on to dex's watch. All stainless steel case. speidel twist o flex band. The face is silver/sort of cream colored. I haven't forgotten to take pics of the band for you. I've been busy though so I'll try to get that to you when I can.

Okay, so now that it's universally established that every person on this forum that wanted one has one (but me, of course), now maybe I can snatch one without paying an arm and a leg. That's of course until some ******* decides to start stockpiling these things and reselling them on eBay as "Dexter watches".

I wouldn't say "everyone has one". I've been looking for quite a while now and can only find "close enough ones". I have yet to even see the accurate one listed anywhere. So break out your "Kill bag", take out your bone saw and prepare to pay the price if you want one, cause there are definitely people out there still waiting to get their hands on one. Today's special price of one arm and one leg!!! LOL

I actually dropped the mallet on a "close enough" watch about a month ago. I liked it so much in general, so the fact that it was made by Waltham and was the same case shape, color, and face color as Dexter's (the oblong case shape being my favorite anyway) was just icing on the cake for me. I'll get a video up soon. I stuck the SAME exact Spiedel Twist-O-Flex on it that Dexter has. It seems to be quite rare, as it was the only one on eBay, and I still have yet to see one person on this site that has the right one.

If we were civilized, we'd all get on a waiting list for each upcoming watch so that each of us can get one at a relatively good deal, but I don't suppose humanity is at that point yet.

Starkiller, Dexters real watch doesnt have gold tone markers on the face, or hands they are silver, Dark passenger has the exact watch which he has photos on the previous page of the right watch. but mine is currently been shipped off to all be replated, everything gold will be made silver as how the watch should be.

Yep. Spot on, here. I actually pointed that out when Dark Passenger sent me pics of the first one he got that was silver with gold hour markers and hands.

yes, which he posted those pics as well, but indeed there is nothing gold on Dexters watch AT ALL, except sometimes the face of the dial can look goldish in certain lighting. but otherwise all silver

Rbeato,

The problem is your going to typical common jewelers that rarely have the facilties to plate properly. You need to go to a "Plating Co" or find one on the internet.....quit going to common city jewelers.

tymer if you read my post #172 you will have seen i have done just that to where they are going to do everything i asked them to do

some just won a gold one on ebay, must have offered the guy $150 for it because they ended the auction with one bid, and made a buy it now auction, kudos to whomever got it, just know its going to cost around $300 itself to turn it silver, plus with how old it is you want to get it serviced.
still waiting on mine, after all i had done to it should look and work like its a brand new watch.

I bid on it first thing this morning and received an email later in the evening saying that my bid had been retracted and that the item was re-listed. So as soon as I saw that it had been changed to "Buy It Now" I did just that. The seller just contacted me saying that another buyer had contacted him asking for the "Buy It Now" even though I had already bid on it, and basically tried to swipe it out from under me. Apparently I beat him to it twice in one day. :behave

nice job! now just gotta plate it in silver, but i say go with rhodium plating, same color as silver, but more durable and harder so less likely to wear off, thats what my jeweler told me to do. plus its cheaper.
