Destiny (Video Game) Discussion

I've been enjoying it. I will freely admit that the campaign is way too short. But the exotic weapon quests (Sword, Gjallarhorn)
really add to the story, even though they're not really considered part of the campaign.

Really digging the designs of the new Cruicible/faction weapons, like the Pulse Rifle, sniper and hand cannons. I got a great RNG
hand cannon drop from New Monarchy, with explosive rounds AND firefly. :)

Yep since my last post I've really dove back into the game. I like it. I've made it a point to not rush through everything and I dig dominance in pvp. Definitely worth the $30

I've been working into it as well. I'm liking the new areas, but the new gear/weapons are still overwhelming.

I got a "Level 40" thing, so I created a new Warlock and started from the beginning. Pretty nice to start all of the original stuff with Level 40 equipment.

Dammit i went and bought the stupid thing, i doubt i'll ever do the raid unless my buddy drags me in at a checkpoint like we did with crota before. I decommissioned my titan so he has all green armor on right now. 3 hours to reinstall this thing, and they want us to go all digital? I missed on the preorder so i'm going to get the normal boring gally. Anyone having issues? The bungie forum has all hell breaking loose as half the people who preordered never got the gwing or whatever it is, others can't buy the DLC, and some of them aren't having the missions register as done several times in a row so they can move on. It currently has a 2 star review on amazon.

I pre-ordered.
Only problem I've seen is the occasional server hiccup (I put some of the blame on my lousy internet connection where I live).
The release day... well, that came and went but the server was locked up pretty bad for the first hour or three...
I'm enjoying it so far, but I've also been trying to not play because I'm like a crackhead and will play for 6-12 hours as if it's nothing. That doesn't sit well with the wife. :)

I've easily been doing 6 hours a night, depending on how soon I get online after work.
We ran Siva strikes last night and I went from LL 350 to 353. Wes: if you have a fresh Character, you should have an
item in the postmaster to boost you to level 40. After that, just run campaign missions to
get blue items and eventually Legendary items. Shouldn't take too long.

It probably isn't your net, their servers have been getting worse and worse over the last 3 years. If you check their help section on the forum it's a dozen folks with the exact same connection issue and the response is literally a cut and paste copy no matter the issue in that part of the forum: they usually blame the gamers. Everyone's blaming Activision but i think Bungie didn't have enough faith in the game to want to get dedicated pvp servers so everything is draining the servers they got.

Anyone still playing? I'm looking for a normal mode Kings Fall raid team for my friend and myself. My friend is a seasoned Kings Fall raider, who's raided with all three of his characters and in the hard raid as well, but we are looking to get the full normal raid armor and weapons. We are interested in trying other raids as well, but probably not hard mode. We are both located in Denmark, so hopefully we can figure out the time zone issues, so we can play together. On the weekdays my friend is able to play after 19:00 Danish time (I think +1 or 2 gmt), whereas I'm able to play earlier, in case there's a single opening, but would prefer to play together with my friend.

We speak English fairly well (with accents)... and I'm not too good with the other European languages, so English is preferred.

D2 game play looks cool... but it doesn't look mind blowing. I pre-ordered it so I'll still be playing it.

Looks like the first game with new guns, new light abilities, new ships, and tougher enemies. I guess that's pretty much what should have been expected. I'm just hoping the planets have a lot worth exploring.

Yeah, the raid thing is kinda bust. But would be cool to get a chance for the challenge of elders exotic weapons, but since there's no matchmaking it's a bit tough to solo it. Anyone still playing and up for some COE?

Stream of consciousness review. You've been warned. ;)

Been playing it off and on. Since there's no real exploration outside the strike, it's a bit limited,
but the initial campaign story was pretty sweet and makes me want to know more. :)

Replayed the strike a few times to get different loot. Duplicate weapon drops do occur in all available
game modes since they nerfed the random weapon perk rolls from Destiny 1, and I'm kind of annoyed
with that. But who knows, they may revise that before the final game drops.

The updated Crucible control mode is cool, but power/grenade/special recharge times are stupidly slow.
I went the entire match without getting a super, or not getting it until the end of the match.

The SMG weapon type is pretty cool but seems similar to the auto rifle in several respects.
The Fusion Sniper rifle weapon type is interesting.

The changing of shotguns/sniper rifles to a "Heavy" weapon type was a good move.
The apparent loss of Heavy Machine guns and Rocket Launchers as a weapon type
(if they're in there, "I" never got one) is an interesting design choice, but again, that decision
may change in the final game.

Bungie has already posted a notice that the Beta is an early build of the game, so many of
the complaints people have about these features have already been changed in the final build
of the games supposedly.

The countdown game type I was completely annihilated in the first game I played, and the second
time I played it it was more evenly matched.

Honestly, I'm a Destiny "Fanboy" so will be buying it no matter what. The Beta test, as presented,
in the end is a bit "meh" but it IS what a beta is supposed to be: a sample of the final game and NOT the
final launch game. It's supposed to be a TEST. A Beta is not supposed to be THE final release game.
Keep that in mind and you'll do fine.

I've been playing the Beta. I love Destiny despite its many flaws. I enjoyed it for what it was. I think moving snipers and rockets and shotguns and all that into a power slot was a good move for PvP. On the other hand it was a horrible idea for PvE. Now everything feels like a bullet sponge. 4v4 in PvP feels like a downgrade, still no servers, abilities recharge God awfully slow. On the plus side it feels like there could be a storyline. I heard there are 50+ cinematics. All in all I'm expecting a good game. I feel like they're keeping a few tricks up their sleeves.

Agree 1000000000% on the heavy weapon rebalancing for PvE.

For players that dont don't care at all about PvP (like myself), this decision clearly says "We don't care about you guys, at all."

I think of all the times in the first game where a good launcher, sniper, and primary were pretty much the ONLY way to prevail, and I can't help but think that those moments in this second game will turn into long, drawn out wipes as my teammates and I try to take down a boss with a hindered arsenal.

I feel its an extremely poor decision on Bungie's part, and really does only improve the PvP experience. I guess I don't see why if they are so concerned about heavy weapon use in PvP they don't just change the available load outs for PvP? It's not like it HAS to be the same for both game types.

The biggest appeal of these games for me is the open world sandbox.
I watched a gameplay video and it definitely looks like they have expanded the worlds and made a lot more to explore. It also looks like when you're doing freeplay that you can select the area you drop to instead of one fixed point to start on each planet.

I like the changes to the subclasses... I love the Titan defender shield. Very Captain America-esque.

Not crazy about the weapons so far but considering how many there are in D1 I'm sure I'll find one that suits me. I'm mainly a scout rifle/sniper rifle player. I like to do all my killing from a safe distance.

I have no doubt this game will keep me busy for a while. I've lost many days of my life in the first one and will gladly give up more.

I got sick of them changing stuff all the time. One moment you could get a great gun that you earned and then the next moment Bungie decides too many people have that gun and pull it or change the specs on effectiveness. I'm sorry, but that's Bungie's fault for the oversight and the players shouldn't be punished for it.

Then they do stuff like changing the voice of The Ghost... Keep the damn game consistent and stop pulling and changing things! DLC ADD-ONS are one thing, but I'm so sick of these incomplete games and indecisiveness.

Games used to be released complete when they came out and you just accepted it as-is with bugs and exploits. Now you can release half developed games, charge full price, ask for more money to play the complete game (down the line with seasonal releases).... It's just ridiculous.

I really loved Destiny and played it for many many hours, but I was so sick of the constant altering of the game dynamic that I just bailed before the big Taken Wallet expansion. I'd love to think Destiny 2 will be a lesson learned and a more official release and clear direction. I get the feeling they didn't quite know what they were doing the first time round.

From what I've heard I think I'm really going to enjoy all of the public event style activities especially the nightfall difficulty ones. And I agree, I really like low rate of fire scouts and snipers.

I agree with the "got sick of everything always changing" aspect. Balance the game, realize you tipped the scales too far in the other direction, balance again.

As petty as it may sound, my main playing friend and I basically quit over one of the rebalances...it just really irked us. He had hunted for Gjallarhorn FOREVER. He finally got it...the next week, they announced it was getting nerfed. It wasn't so much the fact that it got nerfed, but the reason...they apparently didn't like that it had become a weapon that included or excluded players from participating...basically, they didn't like that all the looking for group people would kick someone from a group if they did NOT have the Ballerhorn.

My problem with that is this.

Bungie SPECIFICALLY didn't create a system in game for players to join the harder and end game type content. They relied on the community to do that. Then they changed the game because the community did exactly what Bungie told them they needed to do.

Bungie--Hey, we aren't going to put matchmaking into the game for things like Raids. You'll need to group up on your own.
Community--Okay, cool...we have a few people that developed these nice tools for looking for groups, and we can use the Bungie forums and stuff.
Bungie--Good job, that's what we expected.

Fast forward.

LFG Post--We are going to be doing the hardest thing in the game...the Oryx Raid on Hard Mode. You can play, but you have to be well equipped...so get your Ballerhorn's ready!!
Guys That Don't Have Ballerhorn--We don't feel like we are being included!!! Whine, whine, whine.

Fast Forward.

Bungie--Because we didn't put a system in the game to help players find each other for the Raids, and the community has made it's own requirements for people to join groups, one of those being end-level weapons, we are killing Gjallarhorn's damage and making it basically useless.

Look...I get it that weapons come and go in games like this. But rarely have I seen a weapon in a game adjusted simply because some players don't have it. Bungie mandated the community with coming up with a way to find groups...and the community did that, and many of them made it a requirement for certain things to be able to join their group. What was especially maddening about this was that when I didn't have my Gjallarhorn, I NEVER had an issue finding a group...sure, maybe one would be like "Sorry, no Baller no play" but then I'd just find another group.

When you rely on the community to do things, you're basically saying you're okay with the community determining the rules. You can't then later say "Yeah, we know we tasked you guys with this but we aren't happy with what you've come up with, so we're changing this aspect." I mean, I played primarily as a Titan...I never complained on any forums or anything when I couldn't find any groups looking Titans.

It just really irritated me, and my buddy was pretty disappointed...getting the Ballerhorn had been like his driving force in video games for a LOOONG time...only to get it to be able to use it for like one Nightfall and one Raid.
