Dengar backpack

Well I am working on a Dengar costume and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for what to use.

I am thinking the top square piece is vent louver of some kind and the silver I think i can make something out of like a 4" pipe for the bottom and then could rope around a bowl. but it almost looks like some sort of machinery piece since it has all the bolt holes around it. but i wanted to see if anyone here had any good ideas, before i started

I'm pretty sure the rectangular piece with the vertical ribbing inside is an air filter from a vehicle of some sort. The sand troopers appear to have a similar filter element rolled into a cylinder on their back packs, and I think I can see a line where the top and bottom of the rectangular frame would have compressed the tops of the ridged part of the filter element. I'm sorry that I can't provide pictures of this sort of filter in operation, so these comments are just FWIW.

I made one, but I don't have any pics online right now. I have a pic on my laptop, so I'll try to upload it.

I built the vent from scratch. I used a plastic tray and cut a square in the bottom for the "frame". Then I cut a bunch of alumimum bars, drilled holes in the ends, and threaded them along a long screw. A nut was put between each bar to get uniform spacing. Ended up being the heaviest thing on the pack! For the ribs/heat sink vanes/whatever along the sides of the large section I used two rubber, bendable Ikea CD holders. Those look great.
