Definitive Clockwork Orange Costume

Thank you!!!! I'm really glad you liked it...your reply really made my day!
And as for resuming the costume, I'd surely recommend it, since it's been so much fun for me...I'm sure it'll b for you too. : )
Plus I got sooo much info in my head about it, that I'm sure, in case u had trouble, I could b of help. ; )

HELLO!! Right so let me just say I am SUPER EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with that costume and I envy you so much haha.

But to the point, I basically wanted to ask you two important questions (or to anyone, if they can help too)

1. Where were you able to find the suspenders with golden hardware? I found the perfect ones but they have silver instead of gold and that just won't do for me :\

2. I looove that shillelagh with the hidden blade and its amazing that you made that part out of cardboard and plastic and wood and whatnot. And originally I would buy a normal one and get it custom-made as an exact replica but i'm wearing this outfit to a Comic Con and their rules on weapon props is strict so obviously it cant be a real dagger/knife and would have to be made of some other material. So point is, do you think you can sorta tell me how you did that? (on here or through PM is fine) I would gladly appreciate it!!!!!! Thank you!

hey Temporarily! thanks for your kind words! : )
to answer your questions:
1-http://www.britishbraces.co.uk/shop/ thats where i got the suspenders from. user Frantic_Hedgehog from this forum actually found that. i dont wanna take credit for them : )
2-the reason y i didnt go with a real blade, is the same as yours...besides, in most countries its not even legal to walk in the street with a concealed weapon of that sort, not only coz its concelaed but also coz of the length of the blade. well, anyway...ill figure out a quick but detailed way to explain how i did it, and get back to you soon, ok??? : )

Hihihi there, fellow gents and droogies!! So let me start by saying Ive been wanting to do an Alex costume for a looong time now... which led me to finally do some google searches, which finally led me to this wonderful place!! Ive always been a fan of the idea of replicating and or searching for screen artifacts, lol. Alot of times can be quite a daunting task, but thanks to the outrenet, its a little more within grasp!! I greatly appreciate all of the time you gents took to catalog your trials and tribs! Thanks to mandrawspicture, i am waiting on a set of cufflinks! (i still will do an attempt at them myself, and a maskie at some point-i do think his look rather good!) My first venture is the shirt, which arrived yesturday. The fit is good, the fabric is pretty nice, as well! not a true cord, but it deffinitly looks and feels vintage. Pearl buttons, and a three button cuff, too! Only "complaint" is that it is taupe, which is quite noticable in person. However it says on the tag, it is ok to bleach, so i may attempt a small trial of that. Boots are next, talking to a guy on ebay now. Gonna get 9.5s (hopefullly they fit good, as i am a 9.5-10, but in chucks, i wear a 9) Found some decent lacrosse pants on ebay, too. Gonna order thoese and the british braces suspenders at the same time. Probablly mess with the codpeice last.. Here are some pics,
viddy well, my malchiks!

its a little hard to tell the color.. tried to get a comparison using the white in the rug, but meh... then, while i was thinking about the boots, and them being the same in GB, i remembered i had this as a kid, and had to post pics of it!!!

"say dad, theres a strange fella on the couch next to mum, muchie wunchie lomticks of toast!"

I know this thread hasn't been used for quite some time now, but I have some questions.

1. What was the codpiece covered in? I see some people have used leather, which looks quite accurate in some pics.

2. What were the pants anything? Must be some kind of cricket pant.

3. Was the maskie latex? I see it wobble in some parts, but other than that it seems pretty stable. If so, wouldn't that nose be flopping all over the place?

Thanks!

Hello!

I am reviving this thread because I am making some improvements to the Alex outfit I have been painstakingly recreating over the past 3 years. I just found a great material for the shirt and I am working on the design now before I take it to a seamstress to have made. I have a new tan suedette material for the codpiece and I am planning to iron it on to an adhesive quilting foam sheet and then cover the athletic cup. I also have new glass doll eyes on the way and I will be making new cuffs for the new shirt.

Here is a picture of the costume I used at the Fetish and Fantasy Ball in Las Vegas 2 years ago.

Nice work on your outfit, plznololing

I made my codpiece as kind of a last minute for a costume parade. It came out not too bad, although nowhere near screen accurate.

This was made from a tan / beige work shirt that was rolled it up with some Styrofoam packaging in - ahem - strategic places. It was held together temporarily with double-faced tape. It worked for the night, although I’d like to build a better one someday. But I’ve got too many projects on hand already!

Hi to all. I was hoping to keep this thread alive still. I appreciate all of what you gents have done over the years to make a truly accurate alex costume. I am attempting to make one myself. I was wondering what color paint the maskies nose should be.

I know the tip is orangish red at the top. It looks tan or beige in some scenes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

-Thank you Dan

Ps. I have stumbled upon a nice corduroy shirt after loads of digging and a 1960's vintage western three button cuff shirt. I am thinking of having the corduroy shirt Altered western style with a three button cuff. The 1960's shirt is perfect just not corduroy like the movie.

hey danthefnman187!
I'd say the 3 main colors of the maskie should be red, black and a kind of pink skin color....all of those are softened here and there...so you get an orange here...and a brown there....but mainly i think those are the three colors...
masked-killers-alex-la-8-21-13.png
my suggestion is that you watch the movie scenes where he wears it, and figure it out yourself, if you're planning to make your own maskie..
besides, im not convinced there was only one maskie used in the movie....it changes too much depending on which scene you're analizyng...

about the shirt, i'd always pick a corduroy one over a simple shirt....but it's really up to you...i know it's not easy to come by a western style corduroy white shirt...but with some patience, it can surely be done... : )
also, you should post pictures of your finds so that the community could give you actual, to-the-point, feedback! : )

I received the maskie, is amazing! Is completely on-screen accurate! It is made in latex. The only problem is that chemical stinks, but I think washing it will solve everything.mask.jpgmask2.jpg

Sorry guys, I want to know one thing: the Alex shirt used in the film is white or cream? It varies depending on the scenes.

hey! how you doing?

First of all congrats on your maskie!
Did you manage to wash the smell of latex off of it?

About the shirt, the light plays a lot of tricks, it's true...
but if you compare the shirt to the pants, which are unmistakably white, you'll see that it's darker....

So, Im convinced it's a cream color....
A very, very light one, tho...
Hope this helps.

Hello all! I have been on a tear as of late getting this costume done. Let me give you some details on what I have done. I am Almost finished.

To first start, I went with the Shannon Philips bowler hat. Yes, I know it isn't Dunn & Co. Perhaps one day I will pick one up.

Secondly, I went with the white military navy pants with pocket flaps, as suggested on here.

Thirdly, I managed to pick up an authentic irish blackthorn cane as seen in photo above by a gentleman in the U.K on Etsy. He makes custom canes

Fourth, I have went with the trouser braces suggested on here, they are white and with gold. Nearly film identical

Fifth, the cochran jump boots I picked up on ebay some month's ago for a mere 65 dollars.

My shirt is just a corduroy white shirt, sadly no western style to it, but hardly noticeable whenever the trouser braces are on. Had the collar removed and stitched. I found it online somewhere in the UK.

maskie.jpgmaskie2.jpgmaskie3.jpg

I had a maskie sold to me by a fella on ebay named creepy masks. I am very proud of it.

I have grown my hair out for months to get it right for the part,

I made my codpiece with the cup and jockstrap found on ebay for a mere $10.00. I covered it in foam and added 1 inch foam all around it, straps and all. It had elastic, so I ended up having to buy another cup and use that elastic with the foam. Then I covered it in suedette fabric. The fabric itself is not stretchy and a pain in the ass. So it is not perfect looking, but it will do just fine. I finally bought self sticking velcro and attached it on the ends so it would fit me like a belt.

Lastly, I bought some custom made eye balls on like, modified them, then cut a piece of elastic into two parts for my cuffs. I glued the cuffs, then put liquid latex all over it to give it shape and help it stick. Finally, I painted it with acrylic paint red and black to darken it like blood.

I hope you all enjoy the photos, I will post more of my cod piece later and full on costume. I have had a tremendous amount of fun making this costume. I owe all of you a great deal of appreciate for giving me inspiration, as well as advice.

Thank you
-Dan

p.s. I am wondering if I should spray paint the codpiece mist color like Darren did or just leave it this suedette color. I have seen plenty cod pieces just tan. I will upload more photos after I show it off.

Hey Dan!
Great costume! It shows you put great effort in making it!
I particularly like the blackthorn!
Looking forward to seeing more pictures soon!

Thank you very LeVicomte! You're correct, I put a great amount of time into it and found out that I was more creative than I had originally thought. This is actually my first costume ever. I never would have thought it would have turned out as good as it has.

I will be posting more pics after I show up to a screening of a clockwork in full costume. I hope that anyone trying to make a clockwork orange costume will see these threads and it help them. Viddy well my droogies!

Yes! The maskie does not smell more than latex. Thanks for the information, LeVicomte! :D

Sorry, I would like to ask you a question on the pants: in which fabric are made? The shirt is made of corduroy, yes, but the pants?

I hate to interrupt, but the shirt is white or cream colored corduroy. Three buttons on cuffs, western style altered. That means the front and back yoke are altered western style. Two pockets in the front. Very hard to come by, but not impossible to find something similar.

For the pants you can use German naval officers pants. They come with pocket flaps and you need to add some buttons in the back for the trouser braces. In the movie the pants look like cricket pants, but have a flap in the right backside which isn't really what any cricket pants I have ever seen had. You could use them if you are in a stretch for time though I would imagine.

Good luck with the costume it's a ton of fun!

-Dan
