Without a doubt~ Thank you for sharing your amazing work. I just wish my TinkerCAD skills were up to the task of making the triangular Ring of Volthoom and the rectangular Phantom Ring with the rough-hewn band texture.Sweeeeet. I hope the data in this thread has been useful.
I may yet come back to designs like Earth-3 Power Ring’s and the Anti-GL Corps, etc.
Glad to see this thread is still going. I've actually done a little more work on my own ring customs. The Ring of Volthoom actually has a sort of concavity to the "X" symbol too. I'm rather proud of that.View attachment 1695079View attachment 1695080View attachment 1695081
Truth be told I found and downloaded the symbols and a blank signet ring model, then tweaked everything to fit just so. I don't intend to sell any of these so I guess it'll be okay, right? Regarding disc size, I mostly worked with what I had but also tried for a more idealized version of the Blackest Night promo rings. The color discs are just in there for show, as I intend to print a ring of each color in stainless steel just for myself, then inlay the faces with colored resin and glow powder. As for the tri-band on the Kyle ring I had to use both TinkerCAD and Vectary. I made three solid circles, stacked them on top of one another, then used the perspective tool in Vectary to warp them. From there I made adjustments and added a hole in my ring size.Y'know, I'd like to see more of these. Curious as to what choices you've made in regards to details like disc size, shank width, etc.
Also, how'd you do the tri-band ring? Getting that band just right has eluded me, to a degree.

Truth be told I wish my skills were up to making all this stuff on my own but I'm still learning how to play with 3D modeling software. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't having fun with my few successes so farReminds me of the good old days on TinkerCAD, back when I began this crazy project.
And, early on, I'd considered downloading existing models and Frankensteining them together, too. But I obviously decided against that. Yours look darn good, though!

Got the nylon prototype for my new signet style Blue Lantern Ring today. Overall I like it. Fit is good, details are solid and it looks an awful lot like the Blackest Night promo rings. The back of the band is a little thin for my tastes but I can live with it. I've made a few small adjustments to the model to make inlaying with glow powder and resin easier. Now I'm ready to get this one and the Green signet style done up in steel.
Thanks! You were definitely an inspiration. I plan to get all nine "basic" Rings, maybe do two at a time for a few months. Kinda like the way the promo Rings were released.I'm delighted to see someone else playing this game along with me!

I gotta say, I love the idea of the Emotional Spectrum and the way it's executed for each color in terms of strengths and weaknesses. What Id on't like it how underutilized the other Corps are at the moment. Poor Saint Walker is forever without teammates, the Indigo Tribe and Star Sapphires are doing ***kall, Larfleeze is just kinda... there... makes me wish such a monumental change had more serious impact but it all feels very swept under the rug.Yeah, I figured as much. While I recently finished and enjoyed the Geoff Johns run, the casual rewriting of the mythology and the whole rainbow spectrum of rings doesn't really appeal to me all that much. It's a mixed bag. And tying the rings in with specific emotions is very much a symptom of where nerd culture has gone, since everything is about fee-fees, now.
I'm much more old-school, as a GL fan.
Although I'll happily concede that the concept of the Sinestro Corps to counter the GL Corps is brilliant, and it's surprising that no one had thought of that, prior to Johns coming along.

Well, I definitely agree with the first part. But then again I'm a sucker for merch XDAgain, while the concept and the execution are very clever, I'm just not keen on all the lore developed by writers like Broome, O'Neil, and Englehart casually being tossed aside.
And all of these different Corps continue DC's ongoing problem of de-unique-ing its characters with numerous derivative versions. The GL Corps was one thing, but multiple Corps is another. YMMV.

Well, I got my next steel ring printouts and I'm honestly rather disappointed. The printers didn't even bother polishing them, which is the major disappointment. Secondary to that is the warping in the shanks. I'm going to try a jeweler I know who offers repair services to see if I can salvage these.
Yes, which is weird because they polished the Kyle Rayner style ring I first got from them. They told me the shank of the new ring(s) design was too rough to polish, but I thought they'd at least try. As for the thinnest part of the shank I'm not sure. I don't have any tools to measure it with, but I'm gonna guess it's only a few millimeters.Did they actually offer polishing as an option, but then neglect to do it?
As for the shanks, how thick are they? That tends to be a factor in printing even my plastic test rings.
