Deep Space Nine, where to start?

Well I finally finished the entire DS9 series from start to finish for the first time. It was somewhat bittersweet because I realized watching the series finale that this would be the last time I ever watch any Trek episode for the first time; I've seen them all now. Although I know DS9 is many peoples favorite Trek series and I gave it a chance I must say it's still my least favorite Trek series of all of them. Anyway, I'm glad I did it and made it through. I thought it was kind of wrong that Terry Ferrell was not shown at the end during the reminiscing portion (after all she was on the show for 6 seasons). I guess that's all I have to say, lol

DS9 is a little tricky because after season 3, the stories became much more closely knit. It was one of the reasons there were almost no books written during the series' run.

Actually, the episode with older Jake is considered one of the best. It's called "The Visitor."

If you're just looking for individual episodes to watch, my list would be:
"Duet" :sort of psychological... not much for action. Of course, if you hate Kira and Cardassians, I wouldn't bother.
"Crossover" :the first of the mirror episodes. I thought it was fun and a good episode... later mirror episodes became over used and campy.
"Trials and Tribble-ations" :it's a fun look at the DS9 crew in TOS.
"The Quickening" :it's sad and powerful. A pretty stand alone episode.
"The Visitor" :already mentioned
"In the Pale Moonlight" :it's pretty far removed Roddenberry's box. It really shows a shade of gray and just how desperate times of war can be.

As a whole, I thought the series was great, and those are just a few choice episodes.

As a DS9 aficionado who wrote his doctoral thesis on TNG, I must congratulate you on a fine list of episodes. :cool
And I must confess, the last shot in the DS9 series finale makes me verklempt.

I missed the last season of DS9 when it was on the air. I just went to see if it was up on Netflix to stream and I see that everything else trek related, sans the animated series, is available EXCEPT for DS9. Bah. Anyone know when or if they are going to put it up for streaming?

DS9 will be available on instant streaming October 1st, I'm really looking forward to re-watching the series from the start.
