Hello,

For many years I done modelling but recently I been working on a single model kit and
it is almost done :)
Now I only need to do one thing........4 small decals .
I then tought that I actually have no clue what the best way is to do these. The last decals I did were on
my star wars models a long long time ago...

Could someone please help me with this? Any info to get a good job is welcome. What do I need?

There's a printable decal paper out there that you just run through an inkjet printer. I haven't tried it yet, but plan on it. I'll see if I can find the link for you.

For those kind of printable decals, you'll have to spray a fixative on them so the inkjet ink wont run when you get the decals wet. Also, unless you buy the white decal paper, they'll be transparent because inkjet ink is transparent. If you need to print something in white...just forget about it.
The only printer capable of printing in white is an old ALPS ribbon printer. All of the master decal makers out there use a multilayer process with the ALPS to make super professional decals. There are a few decal makers out there, but I dont know of any off the top of my head...

trooperprop's post is a bit ambiguous to me though... Its seems to me that you might be asking how to apply the decals as upposed to how to make them.
If thats the case, I think I could link you to a great tutorial if none of the pro's here chime in.

Hello ,

Sorry that my first post was a bit unclear.
what I wanted to ask is how I can apply decals to my model kit?
I want a perfect finish so i tought it would be god to ask for help first.

Any tips are welcome.

Thank you on advance,

You might consider DECAL pro?

It allows printing of white - and gold and holo effect as well.

Dont have link but easy to find through google.

Im about to get one - has anyone tried it or have any better suggestions?

I soak the decals off in warm water, then carefully apply them to the model, then hit the decal with a drop or two of Future (a liquid acrylic floor polish). That seems to prevent any silvering pretty well.

Good luck.

Hey trooperprop,

Here are some tricks I've picked up over the years from reading modeling magazines:

1) before applying any decals. give the model a coat of Future floor wax (it helps to have an airbrush, even one of those cheapy harbor freight deals).

2) Use a setting solution like Micro Set (here, for example http://www.chimneyvilledecals.com/mideseso1.html ). It makes the decal more flexable so it will settle down better, especially over uneven surfaces. Alos makes the adhesive a bit stronger.

3) put on another coat of future floor wax or testors dull coat to seal (or both, if you're so inclined).

Take heed of the advice to put a glossy clear coat before decalling. Decals love a nice, hard finish. Attempts to put decals on without said finish run the risk of looking really bad.

As in everything, preparation is the key.

Thanks everybody for the replies.
I did buy a bottle of micro set and used it. Still I am not pleased because
you still see its a decal. What should I do?
Use Mirco Sol to futher soften the decal?
Or spray a matt finish of it?

Geee it is really hard to get a "pro" finish with these decals :cry

Either way thanks and I will post pictures soon :thumbsup

They say that spraying some dull coat on it helps to keep the the decal from silvering (which is most likely what's happening with your decals) and spraying with future floor wax keeps them from lifting.

Check out www.finescale.com and browse through the website. I believe they have an article archive and a forum. I'm sure someone there could give you better tips and hints than I could.

Hello,
Ok I think this is the best I can do. Thanks for all the advice. I really could use it, now I must practise some more. Please look at the model at:
