DEATH STAR DROID - HEAD - FIRST CASTING POST #1

Superb! I love it! And I want a Death Star Droid for myself as soon as you make them.

thanks for the positive comments! i really do appreciate them..... just want to point out another detail i included.
as well as the wonky left side of the mouth triangle and blob under the snout, the framework above the droid's left eye has an area just under an inch long where it is concave in profile unlike the rest of it which is convex, just in case you thought i effed that bit up  ;)

hope it's clear what i mean in the pic

ohh and i also added a couple of front on shots in the first post as i noticed there was none.

This is a must have for me. I have plans on making the sandcrawler version. Figuring out the whole chrome paint will be interesting.

Thanks For those new pics, it looks amazing. So beautifully detailed. Can’t wait to see them completely finished.

in answer to a question i got, this is how the supplied antenna is attached.

there is a pre molded slot in in the pre molded stump for the head disc.

the 1.6mm antenna, some sort of hardendeded aluminium fits perfectly in the slot at the correct angle.

once the head disc is glued on, it should be possible to slide the wire in an out as and when required, i don't recommend
gluing it in as it will probably take somebody's eye out!

This thing is sooooo gorgeous. I've never seen anyone cast so cleanly either.;)

was looking at the colour of the real droid, i really don't think it ever was a silver chrome.
initially yes when it was straight out of the vacuum metallizer, but i think the lacquer they used on top, they put a slight gold tint to it, not as much as 3po.
in the sandcrawler, he's wearing what looks to be silver trousers when seated, this is a different shade altogether from the hard parts around them.

you can see the droid today has the lacquer all cracked and peeling, revealing the bright silver underneath.

thoughts?

Difficult to know. It’s possible the lacquer has yellowed over the years, I always thought of it as a straight silver, but then weathered back. I must admit I thought the eyes were darker like the action figure, but seeing that prop, they must of just been tinted or weathered back a bit. I Think of this silver version as the prominent Death Star droid, due to the Kenner figure. But I guess he wasn’t on the Death Star in silver finish. I’d certainly love to buy from you in a silver type finish. What ever tint you decide I know it will be stunning.

Definitely not pure silver chrome. Probably not as ‘golden’ as Threepio but inside the sandcrawler this droid always read to my eye as warm toned for sure.
