Hi everyone!
I've been busy building a Dead Space rig for a client. This one to be more precise:
EDIT: I don't know why those photos aren't showing up
I'm already pretty far into it but here's what I'm planning:
Bodysuit. I purchased a set of coveralls that will serve as the base of this costume. I'm going to have to dye it to get it to be the right color, unfortunately, and then it will be altered to have the cording that appears on the left leg and will also leave in any pockets. Yay pockets.
Vest. There will be a vest with zippers up the sides that will go down the waistline. I'll be sewing in the seamlines/padding/armor look, plus cording to mimic what appears on the left leg, and will also serve as how the front and back armor attach. The vest will also have that wool collar.
Boots. A set of muckrakers were purchased for the base of these and all armor will be out of EVA foam for durability and will be permanently attached.
Arm armor and shoulder pads. The shoulder pads and upper arm armor (out of foam) will attach in two places: It will velcro onto the upper armor via the coveralls, and will attach via straps to the vest for durability. The bracers will slide on right over the coveralls.
Health meter/stasis module.
Fiiinally let's talk about the back armor. I sculpted this out of clay around a flexible tube.
I cast it into silicone and slush cast a hollow rig out of TASK 13, a flexible and sandable resin.
I then back-filled it with FlexFoam it 3, after first putting in elastic straps in three spots.
Eventually I'll dremel out the area where the tube is to go, and place back in the tube. It will attach directly to the vest via a back plate and have an on/off switch for the lights (made out of EL wire to get the "whip" look).
Helmet.
Like the health meter, I sculpted this out of clay and cast into silicone/slush cast into plastic. I had to make a waste mold in order to get the base shape super smooth.
Finnnally got it to the point where I was happy with it, and I'm attaching sintra pieces onto the final base shape now.
I'm a BIT worried about how much visibility there will be. Instead of EL wire (which is great but has its limitations) I'm planning on using EL sheets, which provide an entire sheet of light rather than a tube.
I'm also planning on making this in ONE piece, rather than with a removeable faceplate. This allows me to install the lights and wire it up. However, the mouth guard will be a separate piece and will snap on via either magnets or heavy duty snaps to the sides of the helmet. This will let the wearer actually put it on safely!
More updates to come.
