didn't see this mentioned but I got the email from MR.

Stow your treasures, mates! (Or lock away your heart, if it be broken.)
Sought after and fought over, the Dead Man's Chest is one of the hero props in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Master Replicas is proud to now offer it as a 2,000 limited-edition replica as part of the Walt Disney Showcase Collection.
Creating the right look for this critical piece proved challenging. Designers tried more than a dozen iterations before settling on the rugged style. The panels feature carved Kraken arms, and a heart-shaped crab as the locking mechanism. Two chests were created for filming - one with a hydraulics system inside to lift the lid, and a second with a beautifully finished interior for close ups.
The limited-edition replica chest opens - with or without Davy Jones' key - and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. As one of the most important film props, it's a significant addition to any Pirates collection. No self-respecting pirate - or collector of pirate lore - should stow their heart - or treasures in anything else!
Strictly limited to 2,000 units worldwide!
$299 apiece

I wonder if the Davy Jones key they released would fit in the lock...

Nifty (since I just got a Jones key as a raffle prize :lol)

MR site says it will open with or without the DJ key. also, the edition size is stated at 2500, not 2000. Sounds like it's screen accurate as far as size goes, 18"x12"x13" but i don't think it has all the moving parts as the actual chest. Still pretty nice though.

MR site has lots of pics of the outside, but not one of the inside.

I wonder what the interior looks like.

Re: MR Releasing the Dead Man's Chest!!!!!

Someone REALLY needs to explain product timing to these folks.

They must be taking marketing lessons from the creator of Babylon 5.

To me it doesn't look very promising. Looks like there are no moving parts.
I hope the quality is far better than their crappy inaccurate JS compass. :unsure

Re: MR Releasing the Dead Man's Chest!!!!!

yeah, during "dead man's chest" would have been better,
but the box is still very prominent in the new movie, so I'm sure there will still be some hype for it.

Re: MR Releasing the Dead Man's Chest!!!!!

yes, I noticed that after I made this one, didn't see it this morning

Re: MR Releasing the Dead Man's Chest!!!!!

Very nice:)
And not a bad price, I tend to expect a bit of high prices from MR, but for what you are getting this seems pretty good.

Re: MR Releasing the Dead Man's Chest!!!!!

Screw the Dead Man's chest. They should make the lightsaber chest from Obi-wan's hut. It would be a nice display piece for all those folks out there collecting lightsabers.

May have to add this to the list! And though not accurate to the story line, may be a fun way to show off some of the MR Aztec coins...

I would be all over that!
