"Dead Island" released on Sept 6 in US/9 Worldwide!

So far at the beginning they were just these slow dumb zombies but now I have these 28 days style where they scream from like 150 feet away and come sprinting at you. I know there's more.

The game has really grown on me. All these cool quests they have me doing are fun and the zombies are getting progressively harder. I think I might just enjoy this game after all.

Now to hear that it's one of those where PC (which is my preferred platform) wasn't the main gameplay design goal is another reason to wait and see.
Unfortunately, that's happening a lot these days. It's getting kind of rare to find a genuine PC-made game these days, unless it's PC-exclusive. Anything showing up on the consoles tend to be made on the consoles and then lazily ported over.

The sad part is that they sell much better on consoles than they do on PC. A game on all three platforms is lucky to get 10% of its sales on PC. Which means they're going to continue doing it this way and to hell with the PC gamers. That low percentage is the reason why we keep getting shoddy ports of console games, because it's not worth the effort for them.

Every now and then you'll see exceptions to the rule. Portal 2 sold better on PC than it did on consoles, according to Valve. It looks like Deus Ex: Human Revolution may be doing pretty well on PC, but that's not because the PC version is any better (quite the opposite, in fact, it needs some patching badly), but that's where all the old-school DX fans are. Battlefield 3 will probably do well because DICE is actually making it the other way around from most developers.. they're making it on PC, as a PC game first and foremost, and porting it to the consoles. And, like DX, the old-school BF players are PC gamers.

As far as the console split goes, right now it's getting to the point where most games I buy are on PC, and the consoles are limited to action/adventure games (Assassin's Creed, etc), racing games, or exclusives.

Mercury: If you want an old-school shooter, check out Hard Reset. There's a demo on Steam, I think it comes out next week. And it's PC-exclusive, no console ports here!

As for zombie types, here's what I've run into so far:

Romero slow ones.. they stand around, if they spot you they start moving slowing in your directly. Some are armed with melee weapons, some attack with hands. Love the way you have to struggle to get one off you if it latches on.

Fakers ... dead bodies laying on ground or sitting in chair etc that then animate when you're next to them.

28 Days Later Super Fast Holy **** it's on me already and killing me ... just what it says, insanely fast attacks and usually coming in groups

Exploders .. big ugly distorted nasty things that when they are close enough they will explode killing everything within a certain range

Thugs .. insanely difficult to kill, and a single hit will knock you to ground. Best killed with molotov cocktail or grenade if possible.

As for textures, there's only so many they can have, but yeah, you'll see the same one plenty of times because they respawn when you leave areas. There are a lot of textures, but there's no way they could make enough you never see the same texture twice.

I love the great ps3 save game glitch where it doesn't actually save properly and you restart 5 levels lower and with no cool weapons! Way to go!:behave

Yeah, I know. It's been trending that way every year with the big game companies. Although there does seem to be more small independent companies that are sticking with PC, just have a long way to go to create the customer base. I will definitely try the Hard Reset demo, looks good. Thanks

Hmmmmm.....don't want to hear that!

On another note, hopefully the missions aren't timed like Dead Rising. That really sucks the fun/realism factor out of the game for me.

Almost done with the game. It gets much better with more powerful weapons and harder to kill zombies. My only complaint is the fast travel confusion. Overall a very fun game if you like free-roaming zombie killing action. It will definitely tie me over until BF3 and MW3.

I wonder if it will include freezing and lost saves... Sorry, still not thrilled that the game isn't fixed.

I almost did. When I first saw trailers and noticed it was 4 people, in a zombie apoc, I said: "Why does this look like a L4D rip off?". After learning that it was more of an RP style game with fps involved, I figured why not. Only problem is, a lot of people feel it should be called Dead Rising Beta. Some of the issues are just inexcusable.

I'm surprised someone hasn't done a parody video for PriceLine or Travelocity, having the user book a flight to the island in the game and end up becoming a zombie because of it.
