Darth Maul Costume Display -must see post #97!!!!!!

I've been working with another individual and my seamstress to recreate a Darth Maul costume. We were lucky enough to have access to an original costume to which we directly took patterns off. Not only that, but we matched all the fabrics EXACTLY. Some even came from the same suppliers as the originals. This has been going on for a couple of years but now is nearing completion. It seems like it has taken forever because between both of our crazy busy schedules, we have only been able to get tiny amounts done at a time.

Here are a couple of progress pics.
The first pic is all of the pieces in muslin including original boots. Pay no attention to the rubber gloves. :$ In the last two, the inner robe piece (not pictured) and pants remain in muslin but will be realized in the correct fabrics very soon. The saber is just a place holder.
Also, the super skinny wire frame mannequin hasn't been bulked up to the correct proportions yet so the costume fits a little weird on it.

I'm working with Cyberman on a headsculpt to top this off. I'll post more progress pics as things come together.

Those wireframe mannequins are great for troopers. Fully posable and look fine once covered with a bodysuit and armor.
I bought them about 10yrs ago when I was in college. In the warehouse they were stored in, there were about 100 or so of them. They were $40 each, and at the time I could only afford 2 of them. My friend bought another. Two years ago I finally coaxed it out of my friends' hands so now I have a total of 3. I wish at the time I had the cash. I'd have bought 10.
The downside is, using them for something other than a trooper would require a bit of extra padding to bulk it up. In the pics above, it hasn't been bulked up yet.

I'm not sure if I'll display the costume with a saber or not.
I agree about the facial expression.

I never thought that showing maul with his mouth open is very representative of the character. People always seem to do that with sculpts or toys. Same with Chewie. All of Maul's evil essence comes through his eyes. His blank expressionless stare. Total coolness.
That's what Cyberman and I are shooting for with the headsculpt.

Sweet. I hate the open mouth look of the SS, it does not look evil like Maul it looks like they tried to hard to make it ugly.

You should definitely display it with a saber. We never see Maul without his saber, and it provides a nice contrast with the all black outfit.

The whole she-bang. But the robe is going to take a while considering the combat uniform has been the main focus.

Hopefully at some point.
There are a lot of obstacles presented by the outer robe. The first being that unlike the combat uniform, we don't have an original pattern to work from.
We have a lot of solid reference but that only goes so far.

Before I go back to the outer robe, I'd like to complete the yoda clothes, royal guard outer/inner robes and emperor robes. Those are a bit more digestable.
But then again, I would loves me a nice maul display with a hood.
