Darkwing Duck Gas Gun prop replica

Hi everyone,

I am starting a gas gun from the cartoon series, im basing it off the old toy that came out. However, im having some trouble trying to figure out how to make a mist of smoke to come out when i pull a trigger.

The inside is completely hollow in the gun and the center of the barrel allows for some sort of spray to come out, (the original toy had some smoke come out but the part is broken).

Any thoughts on how to get smoke to come out of the gun?

Wow that's a lot more ambitious that the one I made (just a static prop)!!

I can't think of a way that would be both cost-effective AND safe.... At least in a small device like that. You might be able to fake it using chalk dust....

Hi all,

im thinking of using a smoke generator similiar to the ones used in RC planes and trains. Just dont think the stream is steady enough, im looking for more of a gun effect where its comes out in a shot form. hoping to find something i can use

Maybe you could cannibalize a smoke ring gun like this one here: http://www.zerotoys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=NZ01 . Either that or you could build a shell around it although I'm not sure if smoke rings are the effect you're looking for but I'm sure that there's probably a way of making it just shoot smoke without the ring.

I have been checking out the zer blasters too, the build is easy, just the gun itself requires so many batteries to use tho. But i think they have a mini version i could work with.

My avatar is a pic of me at the 25th galabunga in NYC for the 1st ninja turtle movie. Thats me at the start of the film lol.

For the smoke, try looking into magician supplies. You can get canned smoke that comes in spray cans.

I can recall being scolded as a child because I told my mom to, "suck gas!" much in the manner Darkwing used to say.

Well, my mom didn't hear, "suck gas". I'm sure you can figure out what she did hear...

so i have been thinking about tackling this project for the last few weeks now. what I have determined is that theirs a few ways of doing this:

1= using the original toy, parting it out and replacing it with a tel tru smoke kit which creates long or short puffs of smoke via a rubber ball handle you squeeze,

2= staying with the original toy, might be able to use a smoke generator which are used in toy trains and rc tanks. the only problem would be that the smoke really wouldnt be that heavy and you have to create a steady way of not spilling the oil you pour to create the steam.

3= Zero blaster, now these are sold right now online and they create smoke rings pretty well. i really think i might be going this route. However, i would have to modify the batteries since it uses like 8 AA batteries, would like to convert it to 9v if possible.

if i use the zero blaster, i'd somehow build around the existing gun and maybe use air clay? or some sort of fabrication to create the DW gas gun shape.
I think this will be the best route to go by. the gun will be larger than the kids toy that came out, but i believe in the cartoon the gun was pretty large to begin with too.

as of right now im going to try and decide if i should go with example 1 or example 3. but the project is definitely possible. if i had a way of creating the parts to bash them into the toy model, i would do it.

what do you guys think?

the zero site gives you good diagrams on how these things work. the only problem i see would be to find a way to make the wizard stick work as a trigger for the gun. since you essentially pressing the plastic tube to push air through it.

would be great if there was a kit made for a DIY lol. thats asking too much..
