Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Hi,

Maybe this was already covered, but does somebody have a tutorial on adding straps and mounts for the armor?
I saw some armors with belts all over and some with velcro.

I'd preffer to use strap belts, but I have no idea what the best placement would be on the suit.
Also, some parts will need to be bolted together in order to work properly, is there a How-to as well?

Thanks

Hi!

I finished painting my helmet almost a year now, but due to my laziness I didn't install the eye lights until today :)

So here it is:

For anyone who is interested, I used two lcd backlights from adafruit: http://adafru.it/1622 connected in series and powered by a small 3S lipo battery with a current limit circuit so I won't exceed the maximum current of the leds (20mA). The circuit is a simple LM317 connected this way: http://users.telenet.be/davshomepage/current-source.htm

Right now I have the leds at the maximum current, but I can limit them more with a potentiometer. At maximum current I can barely see, but at lower currents you can see pretty well.

The backlights can be bent easily to adapt to the contour of the faceplate heating them with a hot air gun, you just have to be careful not to peel off the reflectors on the edges

Can you see through the lights or did you leave a space above/below like most do?

I have to turn down the led intensity to be able to see, at full bright and I can't see anything :rolleyes

At this light intensity, I can see very well:

This is a picture from inside, you can see that, aside for the dots, which are what reflects the led light, the acrylic is transparent. With the lights turned off you could read a book without problems! you can see almost as good as if the dots weren't there!

I know it doesn't look good from inside, this is only a test-fit, I will have to glue the backlights better in the future. Also, I want to wire a potentiometer to easily turn down the intensity. In this picture it doesn't show, but in the back of that little board there is the regulator (LM317) and a couple of smd capacitors.

I think that with the leds turn off the eyes also look good :D

I haven't been on the forum in a long time, I don't know if others are using this lcd backlight panels or not, but I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone!!

That's actually quite fantastic.

There are a few that use an etched lens with lcd lights flanking it, but I haven't come across anyone who is doing this. But then again I haven't surfed the RPF threads lately myself as I've been busy with my own build. But that looks great. I was worried at first because when I watched the video you attached in your original post it didn't look like you could see through the panels. But as you've shown you can, so this looks like the way to go.

Have you made a step by step installation or is it rather simple to figure out?

@ballanux - did you modify those at all? Did you peel off the diffusion film?

I didn't modify them. There is a protective cover on both sides, you can separate it easily and then you have the clear plastic with the little dots that help diffuse the light. When you put the helmet on the dots are too close to you, they are out of focus, you you really don't see them, at least when you have the light very dim.

The only modification is to heat them to be able to curve them to the interior of the helmet. When doing this, you have to be careful not to remove a reflective strip that it's all around the border. They are inexpensive so you can buy an extra pair in case something goes wrong the first time :)
