Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Why can't I edit the pdo file? I used the password, but am unaware of where to edit the scale of the work. any suggestions?

make sure you're using pepakura designer to open the file. when u open it with pepakura designer it will require password to open or open with pepakura viewer. key in the passwrod and click OK (don't press enter). then go to 2D menu and look for scale factor

Is there a reason why the foam template won't work in pepakura designer? For some reason it just won't open it and I think there is something I am missing.

I have a right hand glove in the new junkyard for sale. It is ready to ship. It has been painted Mk XLII style. It comes with a repulsor light.

The member that ordered it backed out of the transaction so his loss is your gain. Go check it out and send me a PM if you are interested.

Try to reinstall Pep Designer and see if that helps... sounds like a program error.

I had this problem when I first started pep. If I recall correctly, you need to adjust some settings, something about the line darkness or something. But the problem sounds familiar.....

Hi,

I have been checking this thread and haven't seen any updates. Any news on the V2? How can I help?

thank you i already manage to print the files, and it was as you said something about the lines, just had to change them from bitmap to vector

I tried printing the files but the files are too large in 1.5 scale. I thought if I chose not to adjust the scale it would split the print pages into 2 pages but only one page prints for each page so its only partial. How do you all print these files in the large scales on normal paper?

I thought about readjusting the files so that the pieces were spread out across more pages so that way it would fit but these new files wont allow me to manipulate the lay out. Also I am looking for multiple Iron Man pep files to compare which one I would like to design. I am doing a reboot of the armor i started in 2010 but time became my enemy work, marriage, kids etc lol. Now I am starting into it again as I have found more manageable time but I am having a hard time to find pep files for Iron Man except for premade non-editable files.

Any help is appreciated i am a new member/returning member so my apologies if I am mis-posting this or in the wrong forum. If so please redirect me to like an intro to pep and iron man suites?

Hey guys, this weekend i went to my first convention and i really enjoyed it. It inspired me to make a nice suit myself for next year. Ive been doing a ton of reading and found that i wanted to make an iron man suit. I did some research on meterials and im already starting to gather them and thus wanted to say thanks to darkside for providing these files!

Im new to making my own costume and after some research i understand the process is like:
1. print pepakura (on cardstock)
2. cut and glue them together
3. harden it with fiberglass resin
4. add fiberglass cloth
5. body fill, sanding, painting etc.

But after reading though a 30 pages on this thread i notice that everyone is asking for foam templates? Is there a reason everyone wants to use foam? And if they use foam why would you need the pepakura files?

Foam is quicker and easier than the traditional pepakura method but the results are not as impressive in person. Great strides have been made in foam costuming and a lot of good techniques have been developed. The pepakura files have been converted to foam templates so that all you need to do is print up the template and cut out the foam parts keeping in mind how one piece will join with the next so that you can make the cuts at the right angles. Foam tends not to last as long and develops cracks and wrinkles in the finish. Just like the pepakura process, some people can make a really nice foam suit while others give it a good effort. Foam suits also cost less in the end.

I guess what it boils down to is how long do you want to keep it? Do you want to do repairs as needed? Do you want it to be impressive in person or just look good in pictures? How much time, effort, and money do you want to put into the project? How much patience do you have?

Be honest with yourself and if you find that you are leaning towards the shorter answer for those questions then you might want to look at foam.

Thanks for the reply, i will go for the traditional pepakura method i think as i would like it to be impressive in person :) I gave myself 1 year time to get it all completed so i can do little parts every now and then and then have it completed in 1 year for the next convention. I really like the building process as much as the final result. I will start gathering all the materials etc this week and hopefully i can start some smaller parts to practice with.

I understand you stopped developing the version 2 parts (im fine with the v1, it looks awesome non the less). Will this thread stay active for questions and such?

Hey everyone! I’ve been a long time lurker on this site and like many others before me I was blown away by the talent that is put on display here. I don’t even remember how I stumbled across the RPF but I’ve been hooked ever since I did. I was inspired to make my very own Iron Man helmet using Darkside’s v2 file. This was my first attempt at pepakura, and costuming in general and everything I’ve learned has come from you guys so thank you all for sharing your knowledge. It’s been a long project (I started June 2013 and finished on June 15, 2014) with some big breaks here and there and I’m so glad I’m finally done! Here are some in progress and finished pictures of my helmet.
