Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

i was talking about the test helmet for getting the size right. i have already read all of projectearths page. i was asking if the test helmet should slip right over my head.

No, it should not... just like the real helmet should not. You can cut a slit up the back (like a Halloween mask) to get it on. It should have a little clearance but it should feel snug. Try to get it small enough so that the sides are just touching the ears.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Hey guys.. Probably have a noob question here..

While Printing Mr. Darkside's lovely Pep files for the Mark VII.. I found I get the last 4 Pages just straight blocks of Ink ( as opposed to the file peices). The first 9 pages are fine.. the last 4 are printing out weird. Never had this problem before.. and after researching and playing with the settings.. I'm stumped :(. Has anyone come across this problem or have any input??

Have you checked to see what scale works best for you using the tester helmet? You let me know what scale you want, whether you want pepakura or foam, and if you want it on Letter or A4. When I get that info I will be happy to upload it for you but it will be Monday before I get a chance.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Decided to try the boot for my first item instead of the Helmet or chest piece so i could get use to the process of putting the pieces together and get better at it before doing any of the major pieces on the body like the head or chest. Gonna try to attach a picture of the progress on the foot I've made. I'm using a hot glue gun for the gluing.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Did the same than you but I began with forearms. Hot glue was a pain in the ass though and I switched with white glue (or glue for wooden floor). I spread it with a brush. That made the gluing easier and I don't have excess of glue on the outside.

Nice boot! Keep going :)

Yeah, hot glue isn't too good for cardstock. It adds too much thickness and is too messy. I used to use superglue cause regular white glue/elmers glue is not fast enough. But the superglue is hard to clean up and sticks to your fingers. I now use Aleene's Tacky glue. It works the best out of all the glues I have used.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Alright ill look into a different type of glue. i have noticed it was a bit messy but the glue i got easily comes off of fingers and nails once it cools. figured i could sand away the excess and the set time on it wasn't to bad. how long does it take for Aleene's Tacky glue to set? Ill see about picking some up next time i make a run to the craft store.

It is pretty quick. With super glue the cardstock will stick to each other right when you touch the two pieces together so you have to make sure you put it together straight the first time. Aleene's glue allows you to put the pieces together and then move them around to get the right position. Then you press the pieces together and hold for like 2 seconds and it should be good to go. The only time you have to hold it longer is when you are gluing a tab that has a lot of tension on it... then you have to make sure it is stuck good... maybe 5 - 10 sec. Of course this depends on how much glue you use on the tab. The more glue you use the longer it takes to stick.

My current progress.

It looks like the helmet fits you well. Good Job.

Very nice! you have a clean build there... the 65 hours was well spent and I can see that you took your time with it. Just one question... if the suit is sleeping in the bed then are you stuck on the couch or do you sleep next to it, lol ;)

This looks incredible! I can't wait to get this suit in the mail! You've done an excellent job!

Thank you Darkside501st for the foam files. I was midway through a fiberglass build and have decided to go to foam. Live and learn.

What do you mean... there are only supposed to be 4 sections.. you can see 4 ab plates and 3.5 midsection layers.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Hey Guys, having a little trouble figuring out how to size the helmet. I downloaded Darkside501st's Helmet Tester ( original SharkMark).. size 1.0 .. and assembled it. Now, I'm trying to figure out how the helmet needs to fit in order to get the correct size for the real deal. I can literally slide my head into the finished tester, and I'm thinking I need to go smaller. Does anyone have any guidelines on how the tester should fit?
