I dont know about this place but the other .php board I use there is a function that allows the mods to post a statement when a member is banned. It comes up when the banned user trys to log in such as:
"Message to show member: 'You're a tool!'"
How can this not be used to tell people why they are banned esp when temp banned? Even though 99 out of 100 most should have a good idea, this would again foster mod accountability and also negate the "I dont know" excuse.
Also, in .php, you can set the time the ban expires so that the system knows when to let them back in. That negates another problem; mods forgetting to unban people.
