Unlimited Run Dark Matter Props - One Stop Claw Shop - Metallic, Bone, & More - Still taking orders

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - Now Taking Orders

Mike you ever think about selling the rejects? I might be interested in using them for a set to look like I am stabbing someone

I might could do that. I suppose I could sell B quality casts with a set of grips for $60 and C quality casts with a set of grips for $50.

B quality casts could have the following defects:
  • Small imperfections in the surface of the cast most likely caused by an air bubble that is too close to the surface
  • Small nicks or scratches
  • small areas that may not be covered by the metallic powder
  • tips of the claws or knuckles could have small chips

C quality casts could have any of the defects from the above list plus these as well:
  • Visible air bubbles on the surface of the resin
  • deeper scratches
  • slight warping to the surface of the claw
  • other pits or gouges that could have been caused by the resin not curing in that spot

I tried to list all of the defects but I am going off memory so I will double check when I get home. I like your idea about having a cutoff set of claws that you can 'stab' someone with. I think I will do that too but take it a step further and do some quick cast resin, tinted red and poured onto the claws so that it looks like blood is pouring out of the wound I am inflicting, lol.

:devil

Too gory?

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - Now Taking Orders

The B-grades are a great deal. If I didn't already have a set of these I'd be grabbing a set of those. Many of the ones Mike is calling B-grade would easily be A- by many other standards. Yes, there are flaws, but you have to look really closely for them!

OMG that is such an awesome idea, lol!

BTW, I *did* get my claws, but just haven't had the time to put them together - so busy! Maybe today, depending what the weather does (if it's nice, we've got plans, but it's supposed to rain and our plans are outside!).

Thanks bud. I am just too OCD to call these A quality, lol.

Thanks, Rdmaul was the one that suggested cutting off the claws to get that stabbing effect.

I should also mention that, since I just started making the new claw design, I don't have a lot of rejects in the new style yet. I don't think I even have enough for a complete set. But I just thought that if some of you just want enough for one hand to do the stabbing effect thing then I could sell one hand for the following prices:

B quality for one hand - $35

C quality for one hand - $30

Most of the rejects I have are from my first design and also the bone claws.

Awesome Mike, Just a idea I was thinking about for you to sell off those rejects. I will most likely get on of those down the road here

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - Now Taking Orders

Finally got the claws put together (though I still need to trim the wires down), so I thought I'd do a quick costume pic. They're really, really amazing, thanks!

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - Now Taking Orders

I can't decide between the claw designs so I'll just guess I'll have to buy a set of each. If you could PM me a total plus shipping to Australia it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When will you be doing the next run of these?

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - Now Taking Orders

I was watching those Jimmy Claws videos (the original maker from xmen 1,2 and 3) and was wondering if you'll ever use square wires instead of round wires.

He mentions it and why he switched to square in this video:

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - Now Taking Orders

I have given it thought and even checked around to locate some. The trick is to get it small enough to fit in the claws. The square wire or square bar as it is also commonly referred to is either supper small (for jewlery) or pretty big industrial stuff. I have found the right size in brass which is pretty expensive and also in cold steel which is more affordable but still more expensive than the wire I use now.

Two problems that this would present... cold steel is not coated. It is raw steel so it is pretty vulnerable to corrosion like rust. It can be painted which would help prevent that. Also, square bar is harder to bend due to the 90 degree corners. You would definitely need a decent set of pliers... maybe two sets.

I wish I could offer your choice but the mold would have to be made with either the square bar or the round bar.

With all that being said, I still think that it is worth looking into and I will probably lay my hands on some square bar and feel for myself the difference. The square shape would definitely keep it from rotating in the grip but it doesn't seem like it would be any different at keeping the claws from sliding out the front of the grips. I will be checking it out though for the next molds I do. I still have about 50-70 claws I can get out of the molds I have now.

Re: Darkside501st's Metallic Cast Origins & The Wolverine Claws - August Run Open

Ok, I am going to open up a new Run for August. I will add members to that run as I receive payments. I know that there is a weird issue going on with the notifications so I hope that you all get a chance to see this update. I know you guys are really looking forward to some claws but I am only opening 10 spots on the August Run and 2 are already taken. However, if you miss out on the August run then you can always catch the next one.

So if you are ready to order then follow the payment instructions on the first post. Send me a PM if you have any questions.
