Unlimited Run Dark Matter Props - One Stop Claw Shop - Metallic, Bone, & More - Still taking orders

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

Ok, my mold is finally done. I think I will hold off working with Mold Max in the future until I get a vacuum chamber and other tools that will make it easier to use. It is a good silicone but as I mentioned earlier, it is hard to use if you don't have the right tools. Anyways, I have finished casting a few sets of claws and grips and I just have to put the finishing touches on them and I will mail out this batch on Friday since there is no mail tomorrow. Sorry for the delays, thank you all for your patience.

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

Put me on the December run, please. Also, I paid you in advance.

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

@kahchan I got your payment. Marked you paid on the first post. Thanks. I will get your claws to you soon.

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

@ handler, I had an opening in the November run so I bumped you up since you already paid.

Love the claws! They work great and everyone that sees them are amazed. Great work!

Thanks man, they look great. Yeah, I keep getting asked about mine too... "How did you get those claws to come out of your hands!?!"

I love it.

Just a little note... the new claws are better than ever. With the improvements I made to the grips and the wires and a better understanding of how the metallic powder works I was able to get an even shinier finish with my new mold.

On another topic... if anyone out there is thinking about using the Mold Max series I would say not to try it unless you have a vacuum degassing chamber, mechanical mixer, and some really good clay. I have had a lot of problems with this silicone rubber since I do not have these tools and my clay is not the softest clay. This silicone has a very thick viscosity so it is difficult to mix and it is easy for air to get trapped in the silicone which could mess up your mold. Also, even though it has such a thick viscosity, this rubber seems to get into every nook and cranny. Which could be a good thing but I was having issues with the 2nd part bleeding through on to the 1st part which messes up the mold. This could have been caused by the clay I was using, although, I didn't have that issue with the OOMOO series. Maybe, it was caused by the tapping i did on the mold box to try to work out the air bubbles. Anyways, I though I would post this to help others out. Until I get the tools above, especially the vacuum chamber, then I will probably try the Mold Star series next. The guys at Smooth-On said that it should be better for my application.

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

Been making some more claws and will send out some more this week... still trying to get caught up a little from the delays I had in November so those on the December run just bare with me and you will get your claws soon.

On another note, I have started an interest thread on some Wolverine bone claws and Sabertooth claws/nails. Check it out:

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

Finally got my claws put together this weekend. They look great ... Only problem is that now it hurts when I scratch my nose. :lol

I'll see if I can get decent pics of them. I look nothing like Wolverine though, unless he suddenly goes bald. :lol

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

I may have forget to mention I wanted flesh tone grips. Thanks

Got it, I also moved you to the November run cause I had not heard back from the last person on that run. I guess at this point it is just a formality since it is already December, lol.

Re: Darkside501st's Wolverine Claws Run

I just went to the New Orleans Comic-Con and wore the claws on one of the days. Got lots of complements on them. Several people even wanted to know where I got them from. You might be getting a few new orders. :) Thanks again for these awesome claws.

Thanks for the info.

I'm still trying to read up as much as I can on the molding process for some of my projects. I picked up one of the Alumilite kits a week or so ago (even though I dont have anything ready to mold haha) and will have to see how it turns out.

I've read nothing but good things about the oomoo kits.

No problem, thank you for posting an update. I am glad to hear that they are serving you well. :D

I am happy to share my experiences. I was maybe a little harsh after being frustrated with the product. ;) The OOMOO series is a good product. It is easy as pie to use it just doesn't last quite as long. Especially with using the metallic powder and no release agent. Using a release agent extends the life of the molds but unfortunately it also dulls the shiny finish on the claws. Eventually the metallic powder and casting resin degrades the mold surface and the powder then starts to have a hard time sticking to the mold. So I am speaking in specific terms of using these products for this project.
