Daniel Jackson Stargate SG1 costume

After the P90 introduction as a part of Project 9.0 (to replace the 9 x 19 mm Para) in 1990, FN revised the 5.7×28mm ammunition from the SS90 to the SS190, which was about 3 mm shorter. This allowed it to be used in the FN Five-seven pistol. The SS190 was released in 1993, replacing the SS90. The P90 magazine was adapted to use the shortened ammunition the same year.

EDIT: The P90 never used the 5.56 but other FN platforms do.

You could also go back to the design from the original film.
I took this one to court in my head with my many personal opinions all fighting for final say.

Two factors finally won out:

1) Ease

The Daniel of SG1 was an easier target for facial prosthetics and disguise makeup, even costume sizing, than was the Daniel from the movie. Both are very very similar but the series Daniel was just that much easier on the "time in the make-up chair" part of the build. Other than a few inches of height, his body dimensions were my own sizes, as well, so, no fat/muscle suit or layer gutting needed. (layer gutting - eliminating layer bulk by cutting out the actual overlapping sections and sewing the remaining pieces into a onesy like a children's one piece style commercially sold costume).

2) Recognition

One of my personal choices about this odd hobby of ours (yep, including all of the rpf) was to attempt to use inspiration pictures (what I am trying to match) that were highly recognized by the general viewing audience. This topic could fire up its own thread if not its own forum altogether. Rather than go for the unique or underserved scenes/costumes/props, I chose to try for easily recognized. This means that I will often choose a promotional picture/poster or a commercial/trailer and even a meme if it is widely shared because my goal was disguise. This differs greatly from strict cosplay because I am after that sight trigger moment when they recognize the actual actor and pose. Even just slightly unfamiliar and they will say, "I don't think I have seen that movie" but may very well have seen the meme.

I will be sharing this with my son. We were talking about this since it was brought up earlier in the thread.

Excellent! This was never really made clear outside of that community of users and was often misrepresented in replica information.

The impression I always had was that the mp7 was the first platform for the new caliber.

Thank you for clarifying.

Easy peasy parts and costume purchase and perusal at Stitch's Loft. If you are not scrounging through the surplus shops, this is a true one stop wonder shop and a hugely invested life long fan. Want a fully screen accurate costume custom fit to you..... just click the link. I didn't even know about this source until I saw a link from Riceball this morning (years back).

and

For anyone following this convo, I have gone back to page 1, post #2, to backfill all the resource links (or those I remember to copy) so please check there for reference materials and suggest any new ones.

I am in no way a Stargate expert, not even a novice really. I am doing this build for my bent hobby of impersonation disguise level cosplay. This means that I am leaning hard into the years worth of fandom research done before I put on the costume. If you have any links to stellar rpf convos that should be referenced here, please share. I know that joberg often taps me on the shoulder and says, "this one has been done, here is the link" and I get to just share the link.

The Gateworld folks are a stellar resource, so is Stitche's Loft and I didn't know either existed before this build. Any links to other rpf builds or great how-to vids would be greatly appreciated and always are in my builds. So, feel free to tangent and backfill, throwback and reminisce. All is welcomed and keeps my, adhd, head endorphined and progressing to the final poses.
