Here's a photo of me wearing my Dan Dare uniform at the Birmingham International Comics Show earlier this month. I forgot to get a good pic of me with my Martin Bower paralysing pistol. However, a reporter did and this pic turned up in a couple of the local papers. Here I'm wielding a War of the Worlds inspired blaster by The Gaslight Garage.
As requested, the uniform was a suit material rather than the thick wool of an army uniform. Unfortunately I asked for the wrong length, and it's a bit too long on me. The lapels were originally too big and the tailor had sewn the medal ribbon and patch off centre to stop them being hidden. I reironed the lapels and moved the patches which seems to have worked okay.
The cap still isn't quite right -- the band should be brown -- but I'm hoping that the next one to be made will be better.
Here's the concept art by Chris Weston based on Frank Hampson's original designs.
