Dagger of Time from Prince of Persia - Sands of Time

I have bought a lot of items from Budk, some preorders. They are reliable.
BudK bought the United Cutlery brand and brought it back from the dead.

I have never heard of a "no ship" to CA unless it was something that CA deems illegal- butterfly knives, nunchucks and ninja crap, conceled weapons, brass knuckles, switchblades etc....but not swords and knives.

That's interesting that CA has banned ninja crap now. I remember around 12 years ago I bought a bunch of ninja throwing stars and I threw them at random things in my neighborhood. good times

Saw the film today. Must have a dagger.

Unfortunately... the UC dagger is not terribly accurate, like it was based on pre-production artwork instead of the actual filming prop. At least, from the photos I've seen for the pre-order.. no idea if they've updated it since then.

For one, the runes on the blade aren't gold.. they're black, or at least very antiqued, but they didn't appear to be a different color. Second, the sand isn't contained inside the main handle itself, but rather a small tube within the handle (the idea being that when the jewel is pressed, the sand is released into the handle, where it's consumed).

Does anyone know if anyone besides UC will be making this? Noble Collection, maybe?

I definitely want one, but I'm a stickler after all these years here on the RPF.. I want it to be right.

They most likely got the dagger dirty for the movie, the runes were definitely gold. I'd love to see a side by side comparison though.

I plan to see this tomorrow.

I think half the fun of the UC dagger will be weathering it!

Looks like a good and fairly cheap starting point.

That BudK version looks pretty slick. I enjoyed the movie too - fun summer ride. Tempted to get this one.

i really want one. The movie is good, i saw it 3 times and i love it! The budk one look sicked, probably gonna pre-order there too

in the United cutlery dagger pics it looks like theres some sand in the handle but you have to look really close

The problem is, there's not supposed to be sand in the handle (see my post a few weeks ago).

I'm still waiting for actual photos of the final production version. The pre-release pictures they have on all the sites just isn't doing it for me.

i saw the post man and i just asked uc if the sand was actually in the handle or not and they haven't responded so i guess ill find out in the morning and if the top of the dagger opens then i have almost like a test tube that i will stick into the handle so well you get the point

I was just wondering if the sand shown in the crystal chamber on the dagger is just to show that they are going to put it in somehow. The picture you have all been looking at is a computer generated image. UC always make CG images of their products so they can show people what they are going to look like.

And as for it being real sand I don't think they would do it as it would begin to rot the resin chamber and damage the metal strip spiralling around it.

And like what Jedi2016 said, in the film when the wielder presses the ruby pommel the sand chamber opens and the sand flows into the quartz hilt. the sand spirals around the straight piece inside the quartz casing representing the sands of time flowing through the hourglass. Those who have seen the film will know what the hourglass is.

Hi All

This is a project im just about to start! so im so glad Ive found this thread!

The toy replica does look good but by my calculations based on screen caps and some cad software i believe that its too short! I think the dagger length is roughly 15" and not 10" which the toy is!, If im looking at the same toy the rest of you are! (my apologies if im not!).

I am currently doing some cad blueprints in order for me to CNC it.

I can put these up here when they are ready if anyone else is interested?

My intentions are to build a scale replica of the dagger of time to then clear cast it and finish it with leds!

I will start my own thread when ive got some progress! so i dont hijak this one!!

If you check out some screen caps of Jake holding the dagger, you can see that the toy is definately substatially smaller, not just in length. Still a nice version to play with though!

There is actual sand in the toy version of course and it really does add that extra dimension to it.

I bought the toy version and decided to modify it slightly. I painted the orange pommel with red glass paint so that it looks more like a ruby instead of the rubbish orange one they used. I used glass paint because it is transparent. Then I dirtied it down slightly with a red watercolour paint and rubbed away what wasn't needed.

I filled the runes with a gold enamel. I may need to go over it again. The gold guard and pommel I went over with some black watercolour paint. I rubbed some of it away but the reason a painted over the gold is because it leaves black lines just around the carvings so that it looks older. I also went over the blade with some watercolour paint and then rubbed it down so that it wasn't to intense but at least it adds some more depth to the dagger.

I am going to buy a clear enamel so I can go over the handle and protect the ageing that I have done. Hope you like what I have done.

Has anyone gotten the United Cutlery version yet? I want to see if they fixed the handle and actually added a straight chamber for the sand.
