Dagger of Time from Prince of Persia - Sands of Time

Well I was out at Target today, and while wandering in the Toys section I came upon the Toy Dagger of Time from the Prince of Persia movie for $10.

It looked ok in person, but didn't really care for the "sand" in the handle and the really crappy LED light job either. I didn't pick it up yet but I will probably sometime soon. Just wanted to bring this up and see if anyone else had plans to pick one up and maybe mod it.

here it is on Entertainment Earth

I've wanted to make myself a proper dagger of time since I played Sands of Time 7 years ago. I'll swing by and check it out and if it looks good I might just have another summer project on my hands. Thanks for posting.

(I've been saving a bottle of sand from White Sands, New Mexico to put into my finished dagger for 4 years now.)

Good lord that thing is gorgeous! If the movie is good I'll have no choice but to shell out the cash for that.

I just went to Target and checked it out, the toy version is fairly nice looking aside from the cheesy plastic handle full of fake snowflakes and a dull amber LED. Unfortunately it's also somewhere around 1/2 to 2/3 size of the filming prop. I'll wait for the nice version I guess.

Quick thought, how does something like this fit in with that whole no swords shipped to California law?

I did some of the work on the dagger at the end of my tenure at McFarlane. I just saw this yesterday for the first time at Target and was talking to one of the guys who also worked on it. This was a piece where the chunks were done on a 3D printer and guys like me were left to figure the electronics, play features, and crisp up details that the 3d printer couldn't get. It was funny since we often(but not always) had to fix parts made on a 3D printer and for the time we spent fixing things into a workable part we found out we could have made the part by hand in less or equal time. Anyway, we were disappointed the the point was rounded but since it was a kids toy we understood. Originally it was supposed to have a red crystal that lit up with the light shining outward. Instead the light is orange when you press the crystal and shines inward for some reason. The sand we used was really sand unlike the actual toy. Yes it's undersized since it was intended for kids. At times the factories in China will make changes from the the examples that are sent to them.

Well the details on the blade were very impressive, I liked that bit quite a lot. I would have picked one up if it was actual size.

I like to get a copy of things I work on for my own records so I got one of the action figures even though my work is on several. And it is a "Disney" product. At one point it was cool collecting each toy I worked on when i was there but quickly they began to stack up.

Glad you liked the details on the blade. I agree that it should have been larger. The original Kenner stormtrooper blaster wasn't child sized and people want those to this day.

Still wondering about CA shipping for the UC dagger. There's nothing on the page about it. I'll shoot them an email if nobody knows.

Also, is this place reliable for preorders? I've never heard anything about them before, is there any risk of an MR situation where the item never comes out?

hmm never heard about the MR problem of course I only got like 2 different things from them. But yea would like to know if this place is reliable for preorders aswell. I went to add one to cart and it says it's on back order, but looks like they are still taking orders.

Good find. Now of course all my questions apply to this new place.

And the first site mentioned something about a shield being included aside from the dagger and wall plaque, but there's no mention of it here.

I have bought a lot of items from Budk, some preorders. They are reliable.
BudK bought the United Cutlery brand and brought it back from the dead.

I have never heard of a "no ship" to CA unless it was something that CA deems illegal- butterfly knives, nunchucks and ninja crap, conceled weapons, brass knuckles, switchblades etc....but not swords and knives.

Both sites mention a plaque and show a pic. I think the "brass sheild" is referring to the little brass plaque stuck on the upper part of the wood plaque that reads "Prince of persia"

I thought it might, but it's hard to tell. I'm still going to send them an email and unless I get a positive review of the other site I'm still probably going to go with Budk.
