I know this is border line "geek" vs. sci-fi, but if you are not familiar with this band - they have some great outfits. (helmets mostly and cool gloves) _ Has anyone seen replicas made or have ideas about construction?

If you are unfamiliar with DAFT PUNK look them up on youtube - the other cool thing is that the helms have LED lights that typically scoll with words during concerts.

They are also a huge influence in DJ Hero

Theres a pepakura model of the silver helmet buy beware, you must scale it up, mine was child sized when I made it :-(

I did the silver helmet in sculpy with a working LED display. I don't think there are any photos of it though.

Here's my stab at Thomas Bangalter's helmet (In progress shot, so excuse some of the un-smoothness. It's cleaner now):

I just could never find someone willing to turn the ears for me on a lathe. If I did I would have molded it up.

I want to finish it (Cast it in resin), but without perfectly turned ears, it's not worth it for me.

do you have a template of any kind or really dead on specs? i think it would be trivial to rig up a lathe type setup with the piece on an axle and use my dremel. PM me if you have something

also to the OP, i've got a thread going in here where i'm doing two guy manuel helmets - both a volpin-style build, and also building off a motorcycle helmet. i'm planning to do a thomas helmet for my girlfriend but that might not make much progress while i'm doing the two guy manuels.

I thought I'd just point out that the pic above is not actually them, but actually 12" Medicom RAH toys.

Also, Just to clarify Daft Punk have never preformed live in their LED Discovery helmets.

Here are the outfits I made a few years ago. I sold them last year though to fund other projects.

Probably the best/most accurate Thomas helmet I have ever seen was made by a DJ named Lucho Funk. I am not sure if he ever finished it though.

More pictures of his helmet can be seen here...

IMO Volpin's Guy-Man helmet is the best one so far

We've tweaked the design of our jacket to make it more accurate, and also offer a custom studded back:
