Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted here, I hope you're all well! I know a lot of you have seen this on facebook but I thought I'd post it here too.

I had a LOT of people ask me to do the Black Canary mask from Arrow after making the Oliver mask a while back so I caved.

It was a lot of fun, reminds me a lot of the Forever Robin mask. I inject these rather than hand lay in the mould so there are some extra steps needed but the finish and quality of each mask is very nice and clean.

Clay sculpt about 90% done

Mould making (I made it harder on myself by not taking a snap of the face BEFORE sculpting)

Sealed the sculpture to make sure castings have a nice matte finish and pouring the silicone mould.

Nice mold!
So just the one injection point? Any other holes for air bubbles to exit through? And just syringe the urethane in?

One injection point and 2 bleeders which you can't see in the pics. I may make my own injection guns for future projects as the rubber syringe seals get weird after a few pulls and they aren't cheap to replace.

I'll be honest, it took me a good few tries to get the mould set up right, think I have it down now though! And the masks are much neater on the inside with just a small nub where the injection spout is.

Really clean work! I've been interested in working with clay for my future projects. Though I want to ask you what kind of spray did you seal it in? Also, what material did you use to make the hard mold? Did you do any prep (i.e. release agent) before injecting? Thanks, and good work too!

I just used regular spray paint over the clay. Its not really to seal it per se but to dictate the finish of the final piece.
The core and mould jacket are both fiberglass, I don't use release agent everytime but I do give the core a light layer every few castings. Hope that helps.
