Customized RB Replicas Sonic Screwdriver

Love the look of the chrome on the Sonic. Nice work Straker. And double thanks for finding the pen light and sharing the link. I have a couple penlights I bought at Target that are in the same price range (and have previously posted pics/links for on here) and they were pretty good but I'd say that one looks better. Looks like an easy upgrade to shoot for!

This is the reason I love this forum :)

Thanks ^^ It's neat what a low cost polishing job can do ^_^ And you're welcome. ^^ I've spent months trolling eBay for that pen XD I also posted a link in a reply for their eBay auction as well. Glad I can help contribute here and that it helps everyone. ^_^

I bought a couple several years ago for the same reason ;) :lol

Unline the one upoui bought, the clip on these isn't removable :unsure

Still, for the price I think I'd like to give it a look. Only issue i have with the one i have now is that I would like to replace the bulb with an LED but I can't fine an LED replacement bulb. I may have to make a custom XD

Straker, would you by any chance be willing to take on commissions to make those modified magnets for those that want them? :confused

If so, I'll shoot you a PM about it. :cool

ummm...Yeah i think that can be arranged, however you'll need to sacrifice the recreation that came with the RB Replicas version. I need to cut that off at the base to make the extended version. I can also rework the screw it came with as well so it fits in the new modded magnet. PM me and we can go over the details, K?

Cool. I'll PM you soon about that, I think I may contact Russ and order 1 or 2 extra "recreations" just for that purpose. :)

My favourite version of the Sonic Screwdriver was the one seen in The 3 Doctors, (ep 1) Has anyone made a version of this? If not I want to try and build one but am having trouble getting any clear pictures of it. Can anyone help?

Also, anyone know if this too was originally a Gerry Anderson prop & why this was rarely used?

Cheers

the three Doctors? You don't mean the Pertwee model do you? http://static.zooomr.com/images/8507079_cf9b3c615f.jpg

And yes, we did a research thread and the grip section of this sonic was indeed used in Thunderbirds are Go! for an actual screwdriver, though it seems it may not have actually been a screwdriver to begin with.

Nope not that one. This one has a red round back on the bulb end that is flat at the front (as though a plastic ball has been cut in half). Copper, black & silver on the main body of the tube. It looks quite like 'The Door Handle' he uses in INFERNO though that had a black top instead. I will try and get a screen grab of it.

Here you go screen grabs of Pertwees 'other Sonic as seen in 'The 3 Drs' ...

I'd like to ask about the magnet you used. Does that shape have a specific name? I know you said "Alnico," but is that the type of magnet, or is it a brand name? I'm going to get one of Russ' Screwdrivers eventually, and I'd like to modify it with a magnet, because that just sounds so cool.

Yes, it's called a button magnet. Alnico is the brand name or manufacturer name. ^_^ You'll want a 12.5 or 1/2 inch magnet and they sell those at most Ace Hardware stores and even eBay ^_^

As a hobby, I take apart the old style bulbs and make LED versions for the odd flashlights I've had now and then...I can add a little circuit also that'll only require one battery even...though, I normally use a bright white LED, but I've recently seen them selling 1watt LED somethings on ebay, and have yet to get one to see how much brighter or better they might be...if interested perhaps, I've got one around here already done though...

Well since I posted that I had replaced the bulb with an LED and it was VERY bright. Since THEN though I lost my penlight XD Have to order another XD
