Custom Lightsabers on a budget (Speed-Build)

Hi gang,

I just wanted to share with you a little project that kept me busy for the last 2 days:

Two lightsabers for a parade. My wife is sewing two Jedi-costumes and left me in charge to build the weapons that will go with the outfits. After some brainstorming on how to approach this, I remembered a certain $-store-contest for lightsabers a few years back here at the RPF. That seemed like a good way to start since I wanted to keep this on a low budget anyway :lol

So I hit the store and bought some rubbish:

I used the following parts for the hilts:

A plastic-tube used to shoot water
Two funnels
Two snap-in valves for a garden hose
A wiper
Two bottletops
A hairbrush

plus: some screws, hot glue, bondo, a cardboard roll and spray colors

Below are some pics of the building process. When I bought the items I had no idea how I wanted to combine them. It was a bit try and error but I soon found a design I liked:

Thanks for watching!

These are awesome! nice work, it's amazing what happens when you get out the paint.

I need to do this, just go to the dollar store and load up on junk. Props for making such cool designs with such limited resources. Pun completely intended

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

It helps training your creativity when you just go out, buy some stuff you think might work, and later on the workbench find out which part goes where ^^

...and by keeping the budget low you won't be disappointed if it does not turn out the way you had hoped for.

Don't forget to check out your local swap meet, thrift stores and garage sales. You can score some nice stuff for dirt cheap and it beats buying stuff new. I love recycling junk into cool stuff.
