Coyle Blade Runner Blaster build - PIC HEAVY

Buy a tap set or you'll mess up the screws! I ruined my grip frame almost trying to force the screws! As far as sanding goes...120/150 are good for shaping and heavy sanding then use 220/320/400 for smoothing... then wets and with 600/800/1000/1200/1500/2000....

Also, I went online and bought stainless still inserts and drilled out my grips to fit these...now my screws in the outer grip frame cannot strip again because they thread into stainless still rather than pewter...just an idea and be sure to get smaller ones that match your threads! Hope this tidbit helps folks!

Looking for advice on drill & tapping versus just drilling and forcing screw

well, I figured since I cant find even the allen keys to screw the screws here where I live, there is no chance to find the tap tools too.. So I just went ahead and force screwed them in. It worked great, you only have to make sure to drill the hole that is the same diameter as the inner part of the screw. Im not saying it's the same as when you tap it, but I had no problems with loose screws.

This is a great thread! I would love to know the steps you took in the sanding and polishing process. What grit(s), what cloth, etc.

Thanks brandomack! Darthwolf7 said it best! I used a file to rhoughly shape it, then 200 grit for smoothing, and then I wet sanded with 1000grit. I think that was as fine as I went. After that I polished it with normal cotton cloth (some old underpants probably :lol) and polishing paste. I think it took 4-5 passes of polishing until i got chrome- like surface.

Hey, Darthwolf7, could you post a picture of these inserts? It sounds really interesting!

Here are the inserts I was speaking of...after installing you might need to sand them down as I am doing. I would use my grinder but in order to not change the thickness too much I'm flat blocking them with 120 & 150 grit sandpaper. These work really well on the grip frame especially... wish I would have thought of this sooner!?? Oh well, here you go! uploadfromtaptalk1400017217613.jpguploadfromtaptalk1400017229753.jpg
These hold the grip together like a vise!! Cheers!

I imagine, these could be ordered in any size and installed in just about any part of the blaster that is hidden?!? They are a bit soft too but a nice thread tap and some threading oil make the install very simple! I'm looking into the sizes for the pistol frame itself so that every screw that goes into it will not strip out!!! I will keep everyone posted on what I find...but so far any thread that uses a 4/40 screw can use this size insert...hope this info helps everyone out! Cheers!

I tried to show the packaging so people can find them!?! Good Luck! I'll post the sizes I find for the other loose parts too...cheers!

Sometimes, you gotta sand or file them down in place because they are too big but I got my Coyle Grip set on my Off World so tight there isn't a single rattle from the whole unit minus the billets in the cylinder!?! I can unscrew and screw it back together easily and without worry of "Stripping" the pewter again!!! I'm currently searching for the right sizes for other parts of the blaster so they can work the same way!
I knew there was a way to fix this issue...glad I could figure it out! Cheers!

I´m waiting for the taps from the USA.So when they arrive I can start to drill.;)

Did you posted pics of your complete finished blaster?Every pic of a finished kit is a help for me.

Kroenen77 here's my finished kit!! Hope these photos help. Cheers!

Hey Darth. Is there a guide somewhere to cutting/trimming the back of the ammo housing?

Nope!! I use a set of dial calipers to measure the width of the pistol frame on the inside...then I cut out the back section with a jewelers saw...after that I file the surfaces smooth with some half moon shaped mini files and some flat files...you want to make sure the hammer mechanism will clear the back of the Styer...hopefully that helps a bit...I'll post some photos of me doing it tomorrow...

Are we talking about the same part. the plastic front piece back side. how do you know were to trim?

Ohhhh...thought you meant the Steyr...sorry?
Well, you know it has to cover the flat surface that the hole is drilled in right? The hole in the ammo housing has to match up with that one so I just lined mine up and drew a pencil line using my eye and a #5 mechanical pencil cause they have a very thin line. Then using my grinding wheel I carefully ground off the resin to match my pencil line.. sanded it to the right place after that with a flat block using 150 grit sandpaper followed up with a fine sanding with 220 then 320, then 400...then steel wool to smooth it all out after I did all that to the whole ammo housing to make it fit I painted it with an airbrush using Testors flat black model glue in 4 coats...hope that helps!?

No problem... did you find those E-Z lock inserts? I'm going to put them in my next all metal kit...I'll be keeping that one for sure...I figure I'll just keep making the metal kits till I get tired of it! I got a few parts kits up on "the bay" right now along with this baby too...gonna get two more kits and do one hero style and one mint issue style for myself!!!

Shoot bro. I'm still In the gathering Info stage. I would like to give my barrel a nice blue finish. but researching that In aluminum Is falling short. and my test with Casey's aluminum black are disappointing to say the least..
