Cosplay at Star Wars Disney?

I think it should be considered that aside from armor/pilot/imperial officer type costumes, a lot of the star wars costumes are either overly ridiculous in appearance or so simple/basic that most people wouldn't recognize as being star wars if you passed by them on the street. Even my old rebel fleet trooper costume, in the times I've had to walk around in public at events and didn't have my helmet, no one bothered to pay attention to it or give me the usual odd looks like other suits would.
So I'd have to assume Disney would be focusing on that direction for costumes. Sure, they may sell the costumes at the park, but will it be like how they used to let you buy anovos costumes, where you essentially pre-ordered it through them and they delivered it later to your house? Or are they going to have a stock of it all at the stores? I think, at least with the FO officer costumes, the ones that the cast members will be wearing (based on released pics) is they will be wearing black versions. At least one product presented shows a gray style. It's not to say that they won't have cast members with different color suits running around or they will only be selling them in gray, but it's certainly possible that would also be a distinguishing aspect, at least for park employees to recognize..nevermind the likely difference in quality..

Yeah, the most I'd wear costume-wise to the parks would be a jacket or vest and a shirt, since they are mostly like normal clothes.

I wouldn't want to imagine the odour while standing in a crowded lineup with a whole bunch of fully robed Jedis in 40 degree Celcius heat. May the stench be with you!

Have you ever been immediately down-wind on about 15 or so Tuskan Raiders in a star wars weekends on the 4th weekend? I have. They didn't wash their costumes cause they didn't want to lose their weathering. I wore my Rebel Fleet Trooper, so no mask, and nothing to hide my face when I smelled what was horrible BO and other nastiness that made me want to throw up during the parade.

Perhaps they wanted to be extra authentic and simulate what a bantha smells like.

I can't understand why, if you are going to a Park, you need to wear a costume. You're there to be entertained, not be the entertainment! Wear a costume for an event you are participating in, but not to a Park. And throwing a tantrum because someone told you you can't do something, is so juvenile and stupid.
...but THAT IS how the costuming community reacts to restrictions.
I recall after the Dark Knight theater shooting, many theaters around the country started banning costuming helmets and prop fake guns from coming in for events where the costuming community wanted to dress up, and they flipped out. "This is stupid!" they all said... and "This is just a knee jerk reaction!". Never mind the idea that bringing fake guns on the property might freak out all the non costuming moviegoers who are just bringing their child to the movie for the night. What might be normal to a costumer might be very scary to someone who is not in the community and they might be on edge even going to a theater after seeing the shooting on the news. Plus... Theater owners had to ask themselves: what IF a copycat decided to wander in with a real gun and blend in with the costuming crowd? No theater wants to take that risk after the events that unfolded weeks earlier.

When my kids were young, I took them for Star Wars Weekend dressed as Han Solo. It was a ton of fun, but i was mobbed for autographs. Disney didn't own SW at the time but I should NOT have been allowed to dress up. I have enough of a resemblance to Harrison Ford, that people thought I was a Disney employee. I would consider going back as Han Solo as part of the official parade, but that is a tightly managed event especially for any "face" characters.

Here's the thing: we're not talking about any old Park. Galaxy's Edge is taking the theme park experience to an entirely new level. The immersive nature of the park is naturally going to have some people wanting to be as immersed as possible—and for them that means being in a costume, looking like you belong there. We're talking about wish fulfillment of (the closest thing to) being in a Star Wars movie. And I think most people wanting to visit in costume are NOT thinking about some elaborate Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Kylo Ren, Boba Fett, or Cantina Alien kind of thing, but rather something more casual like a riff on Han Solo or Jyn Erso.
And I can only speak for myself, but generally, I like to cosplay because it entertains me—not because it might entertain someone else (but if it does, then great!). And specifically, in regards to going in costume to DL or WDW, I've only ever done so for one of their Halloween or Star Wars events, where there are plenty of other visitors dressed as all sorts of Disney characters. It's part of showing your fandom.
As for throwing a tantrum—I don't see anyone doing that—and agree such a thing would be very juvenile.

I seem to remember reading that adults can wear costumes in Galaxy's Edge but not the rest of the parks... which I'm not exactly sure how that would work, how you could change outfits between Galaxy's Edge and other locations. Maybe they're meaning that you can only wear costumes that you buy at Galaxy's Edge? Either way it would have to be within reason... No makes or helmets, no costumes that look like the ones cast members wear, and probably nothing with a name tag on it (which would make you look more like a cast member).
Disney is going to have to allow some kind of costuming, though, at least in Disney World. The Star Wars hotel will supposedly give you costumes to wear around Galaxy's Edge, so there's definitely some kind of wiggle room.
Personally, I'm planning to wear a costume of sorts, but one that could also be taken as just everyday wear. I'm thinking something like brown cargo pants, a gray shirt, brown sleeveless vest, brown shoes... Maybe with some Aurebesh writing on the back of the vest, a thin scarf around my neck, and a few greeblies here and there, a leather fanny pack... Nothing overtly "costume" but still something that fits in with the universe. I don't think something like that would be much of a problem.

Disney's rules against cosplay haven't really changed. I've been under the impression no one under 14 is allowed to wear costumes and no helmets allowed.
PLUS why in God's green earth would you want to cosplay in June/July in Orlando?! Unless you're talking about Disney Land!

Yes, Disneyland. Galaxy's Edge opens there in June and late fall at WDW in Orlando.

Just as a quick divergence back to "what to wear" - you could always "Disneybound" - wear normal everyday clothes/outfits inspired by the character you want to dress up as. There's a huge Disneybound following now and people get really creative with it. That way you know you're still dressing up Star Wars like, for your own enjoyment, no rule breaking at the parks, but you're still on theme for Galaxy's Edge. I've disneybounded every time I've gone to the parks (not often, mind you, given that I live in New Zealand ) but it's one of the things that make the trips more special for me, at least.

I wouldn't be surprised if they allow you to wear the costumes they sell for guests at the park... if you've seen the merchandise pics, you'll see what I mean. There are some costumes they'll be selling, similar to the Wizarding World, that I'm sure they'll allow guests to wear.
