It certainly isn't often that I get to do this...

For me, the appeal of this piece has always been that it matches the rest of the suit and pack. It looks like it all came from one place and there is an important technological aspect to the Predator race that I think you see very clearly in this helmet, but not as clearly in the final. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the final helmet used in the film. Couldn't be more thrilled to have one of George's copies. However, there really is something to be said about the original vision for this creature that got dumbed down because they were afraid this gave away too much of his facial structure.Predlethe said:Was never much of a fan of this bio, but after going through this post I think I've just been converted. Awesome looking piece!

I'm pretty sure its taken from this one http://www.thehunterslair.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=41020 Coolprops bought it and cast it directly. They might have tidied it up a touch before casting though. Whatever the size it looks good enough for me.wonko said:Am I wrong in thinking that resin doesn't shrink? I guess I'm not seeing where the 'less than 1% discrepancy in size' comes into play. Is there a question as to weather or not it came from an original mold? Maybe I'm over thinking things here, or missing something...

I gotcha. I thought I was missing something somewhere (not surrpising lol). Thanks for the info!TRI_LASER said:I'm pretty sure its taken from this one http://www.thehunterslair.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=41020 Coolprops bought it and cast it directly. Brian, my comments about shrinkage weren't tied to a question of authenticity at all. This is one of those type of helmets that is so complex and so organic that it would be all but impossible to replicate this precisely. However, any time you copy something, and especially as a piece goes through the production process, there is bound to be SOME amount of skrinkage. The more generations it is away from the original, the more skrinage you are likely to suffer, especially when something is being mass-produced and shrinkage is not being carefully managed and minimized. In fact, for companies like Sideshow, they often have their sculptors create their busts 5-8% larger than they intend the final piece to be due to this shrinkage issue (that isn't hearsay... I have first hand experience with them making that stipulation). With that in mind, when you are copying an orinigal piece, in which you can't increase the size, unless you digitally scan it and produce a larger master, it is hard to account for the eventual shrinkage. Sideshow's Predator helmets from PREDATORS are too small because of this very thing. However, somehow, CoolProps managed this production run very well and the shrinkage is incredibly small, which is great for us because it means we have a helmet that is as close to original size as humanly possible.wonko said:Am I wrong in thinking that resin doesn't shrink? I know what you mean mate. I have seen the film used berserker Bio up close and it definitely bigger than the sideshow one that was released. I would even go as far as to say the sideshow one is a stunt. But if it is shrinkage then it is bad. I don't think the falconer or the tracker suffer from it though. Anyway the Gort looks a good size up against the p1 stunt.Art Andrews said:Sideshow's Predator helmets from PREDATORS are too small because of this very thing.
Falconer and Tracker may or may not suffer from shrinkage (like you, I have seen the Berserker in person), but they are definitely warped, quite badly. Makes me very angry with those missed opportunities.TRI_LASER said:I know what you mean mate.
