Re: Considering trying to learn how to make my own Power Ranger helmet, advice needed
What is the helmet made out of? I normally grab my kits from eric0101 and with his recent sale of helmet kits, I snagged another one. Im pretty picky on how "seamless" the cut has to be, so I use a wire saw/string saw like a pvc wire saw. It is a pain in the butt, but I rather have a clean "flushed" overall look vs. having a gap where it was cut.
From your picture it looks like a hard plastic slush cast, i'd recommond using a THIN pvc wire saw like i mentioned previous, but if you have a steady hand a dremel saw blade (Saw Blade w/ Mandrel Set, 7/8" Dia. - Ultra Fine & Thin is the one i use) to cut everything. Visor and helmet 1/2. Again, I cannot tell how thick the helmet is, but that's what I use when I have one of eric's kits.
After the initial cuts, I start looking for imperfections and bondo, sand sand sand, bondo sand sand some more. Once it gets to the "perfect" smoothness, I start adding the registry tabs (which keeps the helmet aligned) I opted out of the hinges most people use and instead did the rare earth magnets and made my helmet look more "seamless". I also opted on cutting the visor, but instead drilled pinholes for a more stunt cast look. After I am satisfied with it I then paint.

Hey Arkham, I ended up getting that kit from him but now when I go back to that page it seems like he just suddenly removed himself from FB. Any info as to why?
And to anyone else regarding this build; I will start my own thread as Big Mike suggested once I get into it but I have a question on the initial steps if someone would be so kind... What should I use to cut it in half and cut out the visor? I have a dremel with flexi shaft on my workbench, but I am wondering if I should use a standard cut-off wheel, steel sawblade, saw attachment, etc? Just want to make sure I choose something that won't tear up the material of the helmet and will afford me a straight cut.
