Comic Book Wolverine

Let me start by saying that I am very new to the costuming world. I have completed two costumes through purchasing items but have not made anything on my own yet.

I have decided to start on a 1:1 comic book style Wolverine. I am looking to probably buy some components and make the others. I wanted to post this thread to see if anyone has done a similar project, to gather materials for reference and good sources to buy parts of the costume (i.e. mask, claws, etc).

I am reasearching what it would take to make my own cowl. Here is a link to a start up kit for mask making... anyone know if this is a good starter kit?

You're thinking of a face cast? I suggest, if you're really going to get in to costuming and possibly prosthetics, that you get a full head cast done. It's just handy to have a copy of your head sitting around just in case you get inspired to do a costume that requires one. I had one done last year without having to buy a kit for it, I suppose I'm fortunate to know some pretty crafty people with plaster bandages and a good release agent. I'm happy to say, I still had my eyebrows when the process was completed.

And.. looks like the blue and yellow version of Wolverine. Personally I prefer the brown and tan version :)

It all really depends on what you want to do vs. what you want to acquire as well as what version you want to make.

As for making your own rubber cowl...considering the price of the kit and the work involved (as well as trial and error), I'd look into contacting Shawn (reevz666) about the one he made seen here - http://reevz666.com/#goto=gallery-2&viewimage=22

I've almost completed putting together a comic version of the brown & yellow/tan version most similar to this version - http://www.herorealm.com/images/Previews/JAN_08/WHATSMWOLV.jpg

I just need to get some claw ports for the gloves, acquire a cowl, and make a couple of minor alterations for it to be done.

I can put you in touch with the guy that made the bodysuit, trunks, gloves, & boots if you like.

I would be very interested to see what you came up with for hte Claw ports and the gloves.

I have decided to go a differant way than initailly thought I would. Concept pictures to come.

I am finally getting around to getting a serious start on this project.

I have decided to go with leather rather than a lycra body suit or rubber. I also chose to go with the Uncanny Wolverine, but will be taking a little creative lisence.

Below are the pics of the items I have purchased (boots, belt buckle) and the concept art for the jacket.

I still need to identify a cowl, claw ports and gloves... any suggestions would be appreciated.

where did you get the vest and boots? Those are awesome finds

thanks

I got the boots from hunny_lee... Go to eBay and search "wolverine cosplay"

As for the vest I am having that custom made. I took an existing leather jacket and Photoshoped it to resemble what I wanted. I don't have my contact's info on me ( I'm on the road). I will PM you later with it.

I have a cowl for my suit, but I rarely wear it. Now if I could just get my hair to stay up properly, I just finished growing out the muttonchops (these pics are costume chops)

I imagine that the cowl's big face part (the v portions? I don't know what they are called) could be cut out of craft foam, and then plasti-dipped to save money. That is if you want to go completely scratch, and sew up the cowl yourself.
The boots have green on them instead of black. Are you going to leather paint them? Or are they supposed to be. I don't know much about X-Men, but I know that Wolverine's boots in the yellow/blue costume have that black accent, also shown in your photos. Great find on the boots nonetheless.

Sorry about the redundant info in my PM, I forgot that I put some of that in my earlier post. Maybe I should've re-read the thread before responding. :lol

I can't wait to see it finished!
Good luck.

Talisen...
could you share more info about your cowl?

I really like the reevz cowl, but it seems most everyone who has done a comic version of wolverine has used his. Does anyone else make them?

The Cowl for my suit is leather, like the rest of the outfit. it's got a snap enclosure at the throat, a bit of wire in the nose to keep the shape around the nose, the ears are plastic card incased in leather. Sorry, I don't have any better pics of the cowl.

I got the leather vest in. It was not exactly what i had in mind, but it didnt turn out too badly.

You just need to glue some hair on your arms.:lol
